Job description

Job Summary:

A Clinical Allergy Specialist Floater performs clinical and administrative responsibilities in a medical provider’s office and works directly under the supervision of a physician. A Clinical Allergy Specialist Floater manages the day-to-day operations of the United Allergy Services allergy center, administering allergy tests, educating patients on allergen immunotherapy, administering processes, and providing patient-centered care to the many allergy sufferers in the communities United Allergy serves.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains an understanding of allergens, the allergic response, the UAS clinical protocols and the features and benefits of immunotherapy.
  • Understands and articulates the features and benefits of services offered to patients and performs as an allergy care professional and allergy liaison for physician and staff in assigned clinic.
  • Responsible for safe and effective immunotherapy processes to include the administration of quality allergy testing, and the formulation and preparation of the allergy immunotherapy.
  • Provides family-centered patient care that is developmentally and age appropriate, compassionate, and effective for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of health.
  • Responsible for educating patients on administering injections with the Immunotherapy.
  • Ensures patient progress by monitoring following up with the patient and ensuring Immunotherapy is picked up on a timely basis.
  • Completes all appropriate paperwork and ensures insurance eligibility is verified for each patient prior to testing and immunotherapy, as appropriate.
  • Administers patient scheduling either in person, via phone or through UAS centralized scheduling protocols.
  • Responsible for the handling and submission of all billing documentation to the appropriate office via applicable EMR systems or otherwise.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and security of clinic inventory levels. Ensures that inventory is ordered and received, as required by policy.
  • Monitors and ensure sufficient temperature of refrigeration or other equipment.
  • Develops and maintains effective, professional relationships with providers and medical office staff.
  • Escalates patient or other questions to appropriate team member or provider in a timely manner.
  • Administers allergy clinic testing and immunotherapy in a sufficient and complete way ensuring quality and compliance standards are met or improved.
  • Ensures all required processes and procedures are followed for the allergy center.
  • Oversees and administers inventory for clinic supplies, safety, and compliance activities.
  • Responsible for meeting the strategic goals and objectives of the clinic and company pertaining to assigned clinic productivity and revenue.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in health sciences or business is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of equivalent work experience in a healthcare, hospital, customer service, retail or similar industry.
  • Nursing or other medical technician certification(s) as required by the state or local area regulations for the clinic area (NY, NJ and CT, unless otherwise required).
  • Must have experience communicating with individuals at all levels in a professional or clinical environment and experience communicating with clients or patients.
  • Must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the role including having required manual dexterity to operate assigned and shared office equipment, perform allergy tests and immunotherapy, see, hear, walk and communicate in a safe, suitable and effective manner.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and remain organized and focused on tasks, patient needs and allergy clinic operations, while ensuring time management, goal attainment and remaining on schedule and on time for patient or other business appointments.
  • Ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities and ensure suitable and complete results.
  • Ability to travel periodically within the local clinical area and occasionally overnight to other clinic or business locations when needed.
  • Must perform basic mathematical activities including measuring and calculation of allergy care center functions.
  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary and approved and ability to work flexible or changing schedules when necessary and to cover for clinic activities.
  • Must speak, read, write and interpret English accurately and completely and clearly communicate at all levels and on a wide range of topics.  If the role requires bi-lingual abilities, must be able to fluently and correctly communicate and translate messages in language required.
  • Must have a minimum of one year experience using MS Word applications, experience typing and using a computer system, ability to navigate multiple software applications, including UAS applications and EMR or client applications and ensure system entries are accurate and complete and email responses are done in a timely manner. Experience with Salesforce, Workday and SharePoint will improve success.
  • Ability to understand and respond to communications verbally, in person or via email or other written communications and persuade, manage conflict, debate and negotiate, when needed.
  • Must be able to perform successfully in a fast-paced environment, while remaining focused on tasks and accomplishments and remain calm and professional.
  • Must perform business presentation skills similar to those used when working with clients or business professionals.
