Our client is looking for a Senior Editor with a passion for both written and visual storytelling and a knack for finding compelling angles and heroes in every story to join their team!
The Senior Editor will be responsible for overseeing the editorial process of the brand newsroom, which creates original and timely content that showcases our client's vision, values, and impact. This role will work closely with the Managing Editor to assist with story and pitch development, review early drafts of articles, and provide feedback and guidance to brand journalists as well as collaborate with other creative resources in the determination and creation of visual assets accompanying articles. **
Responsibilities:**
- Act as a team lead for the brand journalists and copy editors, and provide them with regular feedback, training, and support to enhance their skills and performance.
- Make sure the team is producing captivating, visually-oriented, mobile-friendly articles.
- Proofread and improve the clarity, accuracy, and quality of the content pieces produced by the brand journalists.
- Ensure that all content adheres to our SmartBrevity style, which delivers concise and clear stories that capture the attention and interest of our readers.
- Monitor the news and trends in the industry and find local, new, and different angles to set the brand newsroom apart from the competition.
- Liaise with the stakeholders, partners, and customers of the company and build relationships with them through the content.
- Support the journalists in their relationships with their client/partners.
- Handle the complaints and feedback from the readers and customers and ensure their satisfaction.
- Partner with managed services provider to provide performance assessments of the journalists and assist in determining appropriate professional development and career-pathing opportunities.
- Collaborate with Compliance team to balance storytelling objectives while managing brand reputational/regulatory risk.
- On occasion, create articles as needed.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in editorial management, in an in-house brand newsroom or a digital media outlet.
- Brand or traditional newsroom experience with print, broadcast, and digital editing skills.
- Strategic thinking with ability to push back and tactfully respond or give feedback.
- Experience in managing and coaching a team of talented brand journalists who produce engaging and informative content for a global audience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Teams.
- Familiarity with Smart Brevity.
- Familiarity with Opal and Workfront a plus.
- Industry experience within Oil & Gas, Energy a huge plus.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to interface with clients and subject matter experts to understand complex topics and distill key messages.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor a diverse and distributed team of brand journalists.
- A creative and innovative mindset, with the ability to generate and execute new ideas for content.
- A passion for company's mission and vision, and a desire to share stories with the world.
- An understanding of compliance process and protocols and how they are applied to Newsroom articles.
- An understanding of news cycles and how the newsroom can be both proactive and reactive in that space.
