Mechanical Engineer for Healthcare Projects (Full Time, Florida)
Are you a detail-driven Mechanical Engineer who’s just as comfortable designing a complete HVAC system as you are producing a clean, code-compliant set of construction documents? Do you believe a hospital should breathe easily, an operating room should hold its pressure without a hiccup, and every duct and piece of equipment should land exactly where the drawings say it will? One of our Florida-based clients is looking for a Full-Time Mechanical Engineer to join their team as a true extension of their in-house staff, handling HVAC systems design and mechanical documentation on U.S. healthcare construction projects.
BetterPros unlocks human potential by offering competitive compensation, flexibility, constant learning and growth, and the opportunity to work anywhere you want with one of our +130 active clients across the United States.
What you’ll do:
Design HVAC systems for healthcare facilities, hospitals, medical offices, and similar projects, including air distribution, ventilation, exhaust, and hydronic systems.
Perform heating and cooling load calculations, and select and size HVAC equipment for healthcare environments.
Design systems that meet healthcare-specific requirements such as air change rates, pressure relationships, filtration, and humidity control for spaces like operating rooms, isolation rooms, and patient care areas.
Produce complete mechanical construction documents: floor plans, equipment schedules, riser diagrams, sections, control sequences, and key details.
Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, electrical, and plumbing teams to resolve conflicts before they reach the field.
Work with minimal supervision, delivering high-quality documentation that reduces the need for constant redlines.
Interpret verbal, graphic (photos and markups), and written instructions clearly and accurately.
Proactively communicate progress, flag when a task is close to completion, and ask for the next assignment instead of waiting.
Attend team meetings and collaborate seamlessly as a true member of the client’s staff.
Adapt to workload peaks and valleys, staying flexible and reliable under tight deadlines.
What you must have:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent technical background with a strong commercial mechanical track record.
5 to 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
Proven experience working on healthcare facilities, hospitals, medical offices, or similar projects.
Experience with HVAC systems design and mechanical construction documentation.
Familiarity with U.S. building codes and engineering standards, including IMC, ASHRAE 62.1, and ASHRAE 170.
Ability to coordinate with architectural, electrical, and plumbing teams.
Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
Drawing production: AutoCAD and Revit.
High quality standards in documentation and a solid understanding of healthcare codes and requirements.
A reliable, committed, and responsible mindset, with a long-term outlook and the ability to own critical deadlines.
A great plus:
Familiarity with the Florida Building Code and local amendments, or demonstrated ability to climb a steep code curve fast on previous projects.
Knowledge of FGI Guidelines for the design and construction of healthcare facilities and NFPA 99.
Experience with load calculation and energy analysis software such as Trane Trace 3D Plus or Carrier HAP.
Experience with high-efficiency systems such as chilled water plants, energy recovery, or DOAS, especially in hot and humid climates.
Knowledge of Revit families, BIM coordination, and clash detection workflows.
Experience producing energy code compliance documentation, responding to construction-phase RFIs, and reviewing submittals.
We've got the opportunity, you've got the talent. We want to hear from you! Apply now.
