About the Role

As a Senior React Native Engineer, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of a production mobile application available on iOS and Android. Working alongside an existing developer, you will take ownership of well-defined development work and help deliver reliable, high-quality mobile experiences.

You will be expected to work independently within an established codebase, clarify requirements and take responsibility for assigned work from development through testing, code review and release.

This is a senior-level remote opportunity with a UK-based company, requiring substantial hands-on mobile engineering experience and the ability to contribute productively to an existing application.


Responsibilities
  • Independently take ownership of well-scoped development work, supporting the existing developer and delivering assigned tasks through testing and release.
  • Build, enhance and maintain features within a production React Native application for iOS and Android.
  • Integrate APIs and implement reliable asynchronous flows, including loading states, failure handling and retry mechanisms.
  • Diagnose and resolve application crashes, performance issues and platform-specific bugs on real devices.
  • Test affected application flows to ensure functionality and reliability.
  • Clarify the scope of assigned work before implementation and take ownership through code review and release.

    • Requirements
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with the ability to work independently within an existing codebase.
  • 5+ years of hands-on React Native experience, including recent development and maintenance of a production mobile application.
  • 5+ years of experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and React, demonstrating strong proficiency in hooks, component design, navigation and state management.
  • 5+ years of mobile delivery experience across iOS and Android, including shipping and maintaining features on both platforms and contributing to the release process.
  • 3+ years of API integration experience, building reliable asynchronous flows with loading states, failure handling and retries.
  • 2+ years of mobile debugging and testing experience, including diagnosing crashes, performance issues and platform-specific bugs on real devices and testing affected flows.
  • Ability to become productive quickly within an existing codebase, clarify development scope and independently own assigned work through review and release.

  • Experience improving application reliability or maintainability within an early-stage consumer application.
  • Familiarity with mobile CI/CD, crash reporting and production monitoring.
  • Experience implementing camera or photo uploads, share sheets, deep links or content import functionality.
  • Experience with native iOS or Android debugging.
  • Experience integrating AI-powered features, including handling slow or inaccurate results.
  • Experience developing grocery, meal planning or consumer shopping products.
