Job description

About Moder

Moder is an AI-enabled, human-powered digital services company built for mortgage, insurance, and financial services. We meet clients where they are, tackle the toughest industry challenges, and build solutions that hold up in production environments where the stakes are real. Our partnership with Palantir brings Foundry and AIP to clients who need to move from AI experimentation to operational reality.

We have served clients across the full mortgage lifecycle — from origination through capital markets — and are now expanding that same depth into insurance and broader financial services. We RAISE the bar every day: Results, Accountability, Innovation, Service, Excellence.

The Opportunity

Moder is looking for a senior product leader to turn customer problems and field learning into repeatable software, stronger workflows, and better economics. This is not a traditional Product function, and it is not a PMO. The job is not to manage tickets, run requirements sessions, or administer a backlog.

This role sits between the customer, the business, the field, Architecture, and Build. The job is to decide what should become product — taking problems discovered in the field, understanding the operator workflow, defining the outcome, getting to working software quickly, and determining what should scale across customers.

The sequence is: Problem → Build → Use → Measure → Decide → Scale. Not: Requirements → Meetings → Roadmap → More Meetings → Build.

That does not mean careless. It means moving quickly to evidence. We are looking for a product operator with strong judgment, deep domain knowledge, technical fluency, and commercial instincts — someone who can simplify complexity, make the call, and move.

What You Will Own

Product Definition

You will own the definition of the capabilities Moder brings to market. Architecture owns how something is built. Product owns what should be built. Specifically, you will decide:

  • What gets built and why.
  • Who the customer and buyer are.
  • What problem we are solving.
  • What should be reusable versus what should remain customer-specific.
  • What is ready to scale, what is not, and what should not be built at all.

From Customer Work to Repeatable Product

Not every successful customer implementation should become product. Your job is to determine which capabilities have earned the right to be reused. A reusable capability should have a clear buyer, a real operating problem, measurable value, working software, repeatable deployment, clear economics, and evidence that it works beyond the first customer.

The goal is not to eliminate customer-specific work — it is to learn from it and compound that learning. Every engagement should make the next engagement faster, better, and more repeatable.

Product-Market Fit

You will own the discipline around determining whether something is actually ready for market: who buys it, why they buy it, what outcome improves, what it costs to deliver, and whether a second customer can use it — without the original sponsor or builder in the room — and another team can deploy it. If those answers are unclear, the work may still be valuable. It is simply not yet a repeatable product.

How You Will Work

Build First

Product does not attempt to fully specify the answer before Build starts. Product defines the problem, the operator, the desired outcome, the constraints, and the acceptance standard — then Product and Build get to working software quickly. Use software to resolve ambiguity. Use operator behavior to test assumptions. Use evidence to decide what happens next.

Compliance, controls, architecture, and write-back still matter. The difference is that we validate assumptions against reality as early as possible.

Stay Close to the Operator

You are expected to understand the actual workflows behind the software — loan officers, processors, underwriters, servicing operators, operations teams, and the managers accountable for throughput, quality, compliance, cost, and customer experience. You should be comfortable getting into the product yourself and understanding what happens before the screen, on the screen, and after it.

An AI response is not a completed workflow. A recommendation is not a completed workflow. A dashboard is not a completed workflow. The work is complete when the decision is made, the action lands, the evidence is captured, and the operating system reflects what happened.

You will write acceptance criteria against that standard.

Decide With Evidence

We do not wait for perfect information. You should be comfortable making thoughtful decisions with the best evidence available: build, measure, adjust, move.

Responsibilities

  • Own product definition across key Moder capabilities.
  • Translate customer problems into bounded product capabilities with clear acceptance criteria against working software.
  • Use working software to resolve ambiguity early rather than specifying it away.
  • Distinguish reusable product from customer-specific implementation, and drive validation beyond the first customer.
  • Work directly with Architecture, Build, and field/customer-facing teams; participate in customer discovery where product judgment matters.
  • Identify patterns across customers and turn the right patterns into reusable capabilities.
  • Challenge requirements that add complexity without improving outcomes; push teams toward reuse instead of rebuild.
  • Define what should be standardized and what should remain configurable.
  • Own commercial readiness for packaged capabilities; work with GTM on buyer, value, pricing, and packaging; track product economics.
  • Improve the speed from customer problem to working software, and from working software to a validated product decision.
  • Help develop the next generation of product talent inside Moder.

What Success Looks Like

Success is not a bigger roadmap. Success is a more capable company.

Speed to Evidence

How quickly a real customer or operator problem becomes working software, and how quickly that software generates enough evidence to make the next decision. The goal is not speed to feature — it is speed to learning.

More Reuse

Capabilities, workflows, controls, and components become more reusable across customers over time. We solve the same problem once, then improve it — not rebuild it repeatedly.

Second-Customer Adoption

A capability should not depend on the first customer, original executive sponsor, or original build team. We want proof that another customer can buy it and use it.

Faster Deployment

As the product improves, deployment gets faster. The next implementation benefits from everything we learned in the last one.

Better Economics

Cost per file, workflow, or transaction improves over time — more reuse, less custom work, better margin potential.

Better Customer Outcomes

The ultimate measure is whether customers make faster, better, and more consistent decisions. If the product does not improve the customer outcome, we challenge whether it is worth building.

More Autonomy

Clear product ownership reduces the need for every important decision to move upward. Teams understand the intent, know the guardrails, own the outcome, and decide — senior executives should not have to act as product managers because they are the only people with enough business context to make the call.

Qualifications

We care more about judgment and receipts than titles. The strongest candidates will have:

  • Enough technical fluency to work credibly with architects and engineers.
  • Enough commercial fluency to understand buyer, value, price, packaging, adoption, and expansion.
  • Experience with AI-enabled workflows, automation, or enterprise software.
  • Strong written communication and strong product judgment.
  • The ability to simplify, to make decisions with incomplete information, to challenge senior stakeholders when the evidence does not support the decision, and to move quickly without lowering the standard.
