The successful candidate will have a strong technical background in fire alarm and life safety systems, with the ability to review completed works, verify certification, identify compliance issues and provide technical guidance to engineers. You will play a key role in ensuring all works meet the required British Standards, industry regulations and company quality procedures before certification is approved.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fire professional looking to take on a supervisory position, supporting engineers, improving compliance standards and maintaining the quality of service delivered across our contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee fire alarm compliance and certification across reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) contracts.
  • Review completed works, service reports, inspection records and associated certification to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Verify and approve fire alarm certification where all technical and procedural requirements have been satisfied.
  • Monitor the quality of engineers' work and identify areas requiring improvement, further investigation or remedial action.
  • Provide technical support, guidance and direction to fire alarm engineers on compliance-related matters.
  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with relevant British Standards, particularly BS 5839, applicable legislation and manufacturer requirements.
  • Identify, investigate and report non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and documented.
  • Liaise with engineers, contract managers, clients and internal teams to resolve technical queries and compliance issues.
  • Support the effective management of reactive and PPM workloads, ensuring compliance documentation is completed and submitted within required timescales.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, certification, remedial works and compliance activities.
  • Carry out quality checks and audits of completed works and supporting documentation.
  • Support the development and implementation of internal compliance procedures, technical standards and quality assurance processes.
  • Keep up to date with changes to fire safety legislation, British Standards and industry best practice.

About You

We are looking for a technically competent and organised fire professional with substantial experience in fire alarm systems, compliance and quality assurance. You will be confident reviewing technical work, challenging non-compliance and providing clear direction to engineers and colleagues.

You will have:

  • Proven experience within the fire alarm and active fire protection industry.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory, technical compliance, quality assurance or certification role.
  • A strong working knowledge of BS 5839-1 and relevant fire alarm standards.
  • Experience reviewing fire alarm inspection, servicing, commissioning and maintenance documentation.
  • A sound understanding of fire detection and alarm systems, including conventional and addressable systems.
  • The ability to assess completed works, identify defects and ensure appropriate remedial actions are taken.
  • Experience overseeing engineers' work and maintaining high standards of technical compliance.
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, inspection reports and certification.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to compliance and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to provide technical guidance and challenge work that does not meet the required standards.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple contracts.
  • Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate compliance records.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • FIA qualifications or equivalent recognised fire alarm industry qualifications.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in fire alarm inspection, testing, commissioning or design.
  • Experience working within a BS 5839-1, BAFE or equivalent quality management framework.
  • Experience conducting technical audits, compliance checks or certification reviews.
  • Knowledge of relevant fire safety legislation and industry guidance.
  • Experience working within social housing, commercial properties or other multi-site maintenance contracts.
  • Exposure to other active fire and life safety systems, including emergency lighting, voice alarm, automatic opening vents (AOVs) and fire suppression systems.
  • Previous experience supporting engineers, contract managers and clients with technical and compliance-related issues.

The Opportunity

This is a permanent, office-based supervisory position suited to an experienced fire professional who wants to take greater ownership of technical compliance, quality assurance and certification within a growing fire and life safety operation.

You will play an important role in ensuring that fire alarm servicing, maintenance and reactive works are completed to the required standards, with accurate documentation and appropriate certification in place.

Working closely with engineers and contract management teams, you will help drive improvements in compliance, maintain service quality and ensure that any issues are identified and resolved promptly.
