If you have questions or would like to learn more before deciding, please do not hesitate to contact the responsible recruiter.

ING Hubs Slovakia is a servicing hub providing transactional and banking operations services to ING Wholesale and Retail branches worldwide, as well as expert support in the risk area across business lines and bank support functions of ING Group. These are exciting times for us as we continue to expand the complex expert, advisory and consultancy work delivered from Bratislava. We are part of the global ING Hubs organization, consisting of servicing hubs around the world.

Helping the business stay resilient when it matters most

Modern banking depends on interconnected services, processes, technology, people and external providers. When disruption occurs, ING needs to understand what is critical, what could fail, how quickly services must recover and whether the measures in place will actually work.

As a Non-Financial Risk Expert focused on Operational Resilience, you will support Bank Support Functions Netherlands in strengthening its resilience and control environment across more than 30 departments within the headquarters organization.

Working within the 1st Line of Defense, you will act as a trusted advisor and hands-on expert for senior management and business stakeholders. You will help departments translate operational resilience requirements into practical solutions, strengthen their contingency arrangements and maintain risks within the agreed risk appetite.

This is not a role where you simply monitor compliance from the sidelines. You will connect requirements, risks, controls, critical services and stakeholders, and help the organization find a workable way forward.

If you enjoy bringing clarity to complexity, asking the right questions and helping an organization prepare for the unexpected, we may be looking for you.

This is a full-time position based in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Your mission

Your mission is to help Bank Support Functions Netherlands understand and manage its operational resilience risks and ensure that processes can continue or recover when disruption occurs.

You will work across a broad and diverse stakeholder landscape and support departments in moving from requirements on paper to resilience that can be demonstrated in practice.

Key responsibilities

Risk and control management

  • Support the implementation of operational resilience requirements and related control standards across more than 30 departments.
  • Support departments in developing, reviewing and improving contingency and business continuity plans.
  • Coordinate and support the testing of contingency plans, including the preparation of scenarios, documentation of outcomes and follow-up of identified gaps.
  • Assess whether contingency arrangements are practical, sufficiently robust and aligned with the criticality of the relevant services.
  • Help departments identify key dependencies, vulnerabilities and single points of failure that could affect service continuity.
  • Challenge plans constructively by asking not only whether they exist, but whether they would work when needed.
  • Support the identification and mapping of critical services across Bank Support Functions Netherlands.
  • Coordinate or perform control testing and assess the quality and completeness of supporting evidence.
  • Identify control weaknesses and work with control owners to define proportionate and sustainable remediation actions.
  • Monitor whether identified risks and control deficiencies are addressed effectively and within agreed timelines.
  • Support the implementation of requirements related to the management and control of concentration risk.
  • Maintain a clear view of the current operational resilience risk profile and assess its alignment with the applicable risk appetite.
  • Escalate material risks, deviations and emerging concerns in a timely and well-structured manner.

Stakeholder management and governance

  • Act as a trusted sparring partner to departmental management, control owners and subject-matter experts.
  • Connect the 1st Line of Defense with 2nd Line of Defense stakeholders and support constructive discussions on requirements, risk interpretation and appropriate risk responses.
  • Negotiate practical and risk-based solutions with 2nd Line of Defense while safeguarding the required level of control.
  • Prepare clear risk reporting, decision materials and management insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Present operational resilience topics, risk developments and recommendations at risk committees and governance forums.
  • Facilitate discussions across stakeholders that lead to clear ownership, decisions and follow-up actions.
  • Build effective relationships across organizational boundaries and create alignment between stakeholders with different priorities.

Continuous improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve, simplify and standardize resilience and control activities across departments.
  • Develop practical guidance, templates, monitoring overviews and other solutions that help departments meet requirements consistently.
  • Connect lessons learned from testing, incidents, controls and risk assessments to strengthen the wider resilience approach.
  • Promote a proactive risk culture in which operational resilience is treated as part of everyday decision-making rather than a periodic compliance exercise.

Who you are

You are comfortable operating in an environment where the answer is not always obvious and where progress depends on both expertise and organizational sensitivity.

You can move between detail and the bigger picture. One moment, you may be reviewing the evidence behind a control or challenging a contingency scenario. The next, you may be explaining the key risk exposure to senior management or helping several departments agree on a common approach.

You bring:

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in non-financial risk, operational resilience, business continuity, internal controls, compliance, audit or a related area.
  • Working knowledge of risk assessments, control implementation, control testing and remediation follow-up.
  • Experience with operational resilience is strongly preferred.
  • The ability to understand complex service chains, dependencies and concentration risks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with sound risk judgement.
  • The ability to translate policies, frameworks and control requirements into practical business actions.
  • Confidence in preparing and presenting management information for senior stakeholders, risk committees or governance bodies.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • The ability to challenge constructively, including when working with senior stakeholders or 2nd Line of Defense.
  • Organizational sensitivity and the ability to understand different interests, responsibilities and decision-making dynamics.
  • A structured and disciplined approach, with a strong focus on execution and achieving tangible outcomes.
  • The flexibility and resourcefulness to navigate changing priorities, ambiguity and unexpected challenges.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

You might be the right person if…

  • You naturally ask: “What happens if this service becomes unavailable tomorrow?”
  • You are not satisfied with a contingency plan simply because the document exists. You want to know whether it would actually work.
  • You can connect risks and dependencies across multiple departments without losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • You know how to challenge without creating unnecessary resistance.
  • You know that being a good risk professional sometimes means challenging the business and sometimes challenging the interpretation of a requirement.
  • You can bring structure to a situation where ownership, requirements or next steps are not immediately obvious.
  • You can turn a complex risk discussion into a clear decision or concrete next step.
  • You are comfortable speaking with senior management, but equally willing to work through the operational detail.
  • You don't panic when there isn't a ready-made answer. You investigate, connect people and information, and help find a way forward.

Why this role matters

Operational resilience is about more than meeting a requirement. It is about ensuring that critical services remain available, risks are understood and the organization is prepared to respond when disruption occurs.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence how operational resilience is embedded across a large and diverse part of ING HQ. Your work will provide senior management with greater transparency over key risks, help departments strengthen their contingency arrangements and contribute to protecting the continuity of their processes.

You will not just ask whether the organization is in control. You will help make sure that it is.
