Job description

About the Role
We are looking for experienced Backend Software Engineers and Software Developers to contribute to specialised technical data annotation, code evaluation, and AI training projects.
This role involves working with real-world software repositories, open-source projects, and existing codebases to analyse, evaluate, and annotate software engineering tasks.
Unlike conventional data annotation, this engagement requires hands-on software engineering knowledge. Professionals will be expected to understand existing code, trace implementation logic, identify bugs, evaluate code changes, and assess whether proposed solutions meet the given technical requirements.
The objective is to create high-quality, technically accurate datasets that help train and evaluate AI models on real-world software engineering tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Codebase Understanding: Navigate unfamiliar software repositories and independently understand their architecture, structure, dependencies, and implementation logic.
  • Code Analysis & Annotation: Review existing code and annotate its functionality, logic, dependencies, implementation approaches, and technical correctness.
  • Code Change Evaluation: Analyse code modifications, commits, and pull requests to understand the impact of changes and assess whether they solve the intended problem.
  • Bug Identification & Debugging: Identify software bugs, logical errors, implementation issues, and potential edge cases within existing codebases.
  • Technical Solution Assessment: Evaluate AI-generated code, proposed fixes, and implementation approaches for correctness, efficiency, maintainability, and adherence to requirements.
  • Repository-Level Evaluation: Work with open-source projects and real-world development repositories to assess software engineering workflows.
  • Git/GitHub Workflow Assessment: Understand branching strategies, commits, pull requests, code reviews, and review comments.
  • Issue & Task Analysis: Interpret Jira tickets, bug reports, feature requests, and development tasks to evaluate the corresponding code changes.
  • Documentation & Technical Reasoning: Provide structured explanations, technical annotations, and justifications for evaluation decisions.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure annotations and technical assessments are accurate, consistent, and aligned with project-specific guidelines.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 1+ year of professional software engineering or software development experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, Go, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience working with open-source software and existing codebases.
  • Ability to understand, modify, debug, and extend existing code.
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub workflows, including branching, commits, pull requests, code reviews, and resolving review comments.
  • Experience using Jira or similar project/task management tools.
  • Ability to navigate unfamiliar repositories, identify relevant files, understand dependencies, and trace implementation paths.
  • Strong understanding of software development fundamentals, debugging, and problem-solving.
  • Good analytical and logical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to clearly document technical observations and explain implementation decisions.

Time Commitment

  • Minimum 2 hours of dedicated work per day.
  • 6 working days per week.
  • Part-time engagement with flexible working hours, subject to project deadlines and task requirements.
  • Professionals must be available consistently and meet the expected quality and delivery standards.

Ideal Candidates
This opportunity is suitable for Backend Engineers, Software Developers, Full-Stack Developers, and professionals with practical experience in software development, debugging, open-source repositories, and code reviews.
