We are recruiting for an established US technology consulting organisation seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the architecture, design and delivery of complex enterprise software and cloud solutions.

This is a highly technical, hands-on opportunity combining software engineering, Microsoft Azure architecture, system design, pre-sales and client-facing consulting.

We're looking for someone who can operate at Principal Engineer or Software Architect level, providing technical leadership across multiple projects while remaining actively involved in engineering, implementation and problem-solving.

The Role

• Lead the design and architecture of enterprise software applications, cloud infrastructure and complex system integrations.

• Work extensively with Microsoft Azure, C#/.NET, modern frontend frameworks and cloud-native technologies.

• Remain hands-on with engineering, contributing code, building proof of concepts, reviewing technical solutions and resolving complex issues.

• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, infrastructure as code and secure cloud deployments.

• Support technical pre-sales, including client discovery, proposals, RFP responses, solution architecture and project estimations.

• Work directly with enterprise clients, translating business requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across software engineering teams without necessarily having direct reports.

• Collaborate with AI, data science, automation and cloud engineering specialists.

• Contribute to AI-enabled software development and the integration of emerging technologies.

Approximately 50–70% of the role will involve billable client delivery, alongside pre-sales and technical leadership.

What We're Looking For

• Extensive experience as a Principal Software Engineer, Staff Engineer, Lead Developer, Software Architect or similar.

• Strong hands-on C#/.NET software development experience.

• Proven Microsoft Azure cloud architecture and deployment experience.

• Excellent system design skills, including distributed applications, APIs, integrations and scalable software architecture.

• Practical knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps, cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code.

• Experience with React, TypeScript or similar modern frontend technologies.

• Strong understanding of security, authentication, databases and production engineering.

• Experience working directly with clients or senior business stakeholders.

• Ability to explain complex technical concepts, influence architectural decisions and support technical pre-sales.

• A hands-on approach to engineering, with a willingness to contribute directly to technical delivery.

Desirable Experience

• Technology consulting or professional services background.

• Experience supporting enterprise pre-sales, RFPs and solution estimation.

• AI/LLM integrations, agentic development or AI-assisted engineering tools.

• Python, SQL, messaging technologies and enterprise integrations.

• Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership across multiple projects.
