Support a growing global finance function across transactional accounting, month-end activities, audit support, systems maintenance and process improvement.

Remote – Cape Town, South Africa (must be open to a hybrid model) | Currently remote, with the accounting team trialling office-based working a few days per week | 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00 UK time, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break; core working hours between 10:00–16:00 UK time | R27,000 per month

ABOUT OUR CLIENT

The business operates within an international environment, with a finance function supported by an offshore accounting team in South Africa.

The accounting team is currently remote, although office-based working for a few days per week is being trialled. Candidates therefore need to be willing to move to a hybrid working model.

THE ROLE: JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT

The Junior Accountant will support the offshore accounting function in South Africa, assisting with day-to-day transactional finance activities across accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank processing and core system maintenance.

The role is responsible for supporting accurate financial records, timely processing of payments and receipts, and well-maintained accounting systems. Working closely with the Accounting Manager and wider finance team, the Junior Accountant will also support month-end close, audits and ongoing process improvements.

This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position for someone early in their accounting career. The role is full-time and employed via an employer of record (EOR), reporting to the Accounting Manager, Finance Manager or Group Financial Controller.

  • Manage aged payables, including invoice coding, processing and supplier query resolution.
  • Process weekly payment runs, including creator payments and operating expenses (OPEX).
  • Maintain accurate records of supplier and customer accounts, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Perform bank postings and assist with bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure relevant commercial and financial systems, including Xero and related tools, are accurately and promptly updated.
  • Support data integrity across accounting and operational systems.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including preparing schedules and supporting reconciliations.
  • Support the Accounting Manager in ensuring subledgers reconcile to the general ledger.
  • Assist with annual audit preparation, including schedules, reconciliations and evidence requests.
  • Maintain clear documentation to support internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Identify areas of process weakness or inefficiency and suggest practical improvements.
  • Support ad hoc projects focused on scaling, automation and process optimisation as the business grows.

ABOUT YOU

  • Previous Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable experience is essential.
  • Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience using Xero.
  • Intermediate spreadsheet skills in Excel and/or Google Sheets, including basic formulas and reconciliations.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work effectively within a remote team environment.
  • Legally authorised to work in South Africa.
  • Reliable, high-speed internet connection.
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office environment.
  • Comfortable working with stakeholders across different time zones.
  • Willing to work within a hybrid model should the accounting team move to office-based working for a few days per week.
