About the company

Atlas Excavating, Inc.

  • Infrastructure & Heavy Civil Construction
  • 51–200
Most underground utility failures don’t happen in the trench. They happen in the assumptions: a scope that isn’t defined, groundwater that isn’t anticipated, rock that isn’t budgeted, a number that looks good on bid day but never matches the reality in the ground. Atlas Excavating, a heavy civil contractor built for the jobs others avoid—deep sewer, wet excavation, rock, dewatering, bypass pumping, live tie‑ins, underground detention, and complex earthmoving. We move over 1million cubic yards of earth annually, operate 20 crews, own 100% of our fleet, and employ more than 150 professionals. Atlas is not chasing the lowest price on every job. We are built for projects where the work is difficult, the conditions are uncertain, and the risk of failure is real. We believe generational success isn’t measured by how many jobs we win but by what we leave behind—safer neighborhoods, stronger infrastructure, and opportunities for the next generation. In recent years, we’ve transformed our company from a pencil‑and‑paper operation into a data‑driven organization. We adopted AGTEK, HCSS HeavyBid, Procore, Coins ERP, drones and ProNovos analytics. That shift empowered our project teams with live KPIs. If you’re an owner, engineer, or general contractor looking at a utility project with depth, groundwater, rock, bypass, or schedule pressure, we’d love to compare notes. Send us what you’re working on and what keeps you up at night. If Atlas isn’t the right fit, we’ll still try to point you to someone who is. If we are, you’ll get a partner who identifies risks before they become delays, change orders, or failures, and who stands with you from preconstruction through final sign‑off.

Job description

Pipe Crew Foreman – Underground Utility | New Palestine, Indiana

Atlas Excavating is here to create opportunities for generational success. We are a growing heavy civil utility contractor that takes on the work many contractors avoid: deep sanitary sewer, wet excavation, groundwater control, bypass pumping, and complex underground utilities.

We own our equipment, self-perform challenging work, and build the underground infrastructure communities depend on. We are looking for an experienced Pipe Crew Foreman, who will report to the Pipe Superintendent, and lead underground utility crews on projects in or around Hancock and Shelby counties as priority. Other Region areas open for consideration.

If you know how to run a crew, read plans and grades, solve field problems, and keep difficult work moving safely and productively, we want to talk.

What You Will Do

  • Lead pipe crews performing heavy civil underground utility work.
  • Plan and coordinate daily crew activities, equipment, materials, and production.
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, grades, and elevations.
  • Direct the installation of storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main systems.
  • Coordinate with superintendents, operators, inspectors, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Maintain production without compromising safety, quality, or workmanship.
  • Identify field problems early and help develop practical solutions.
  • Must be able to serve as Competent Person for excavation and trenching.
  • Train and develop crew members.
  • Build an organized, accountable crew capable of executing demanding work consistently.

What We Are Looking For

  • Minimum of three (3) years foreman or crew-leadership experience in underground utility construction.
  • Strong working knowledge of storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and water main installation.
  • Ability to read construction plans and manage grades and elevations.
  • Experience coordinating crews, equipment, materials, and daily production.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA requirements and trench and excavation safety.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Clear communication with crews, management, inspectors, and project partners.
  • A leader who takes pride in running safe, productive jobs the right way.

Why Atlas

  • A growing heavy civil contractor with stable leadership and a strong reputation.
  • In business since 1981.
  • Technically challenging projects that require experienced field leadership.
  • Company-owned equipment and resources to support field execution.
  • Expanding operations throughout Northwest Indiana.
  • A management team that values sound judgment, accountability, and long-term reputation.
  • A company culture built around Do what’s right, not what’s easy. Build with respect. Work together, win together. Get home safe.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Company truck; take home with fuel card.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for non-union leaders.
  • Company-paid life insurance for non-union leaders.
  • 401(k) with a 5% company match for non-union leaders.
  • Discretionary profit-sharing contribution for non-union leaders.
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid holidays
  • Support from a management team that understands field operations and expects high standards.

Atlas Excavating is looking for a foreman who can do more than assign tasks. We need a field leader who can organize a crew, manage difficult conditions, protect production, and deliver quality work safely.

If that sounds like the kind of work you know how to lead, we would like to hear from you.

Atlas Excavating is an equal opportunity employer.
