Job description

Overview:

LMI is seeking a Platform Engineer to support IronSled, a Platform as a Service (PaaS) designed to host applications in secure federal environments. You will join a small, cross-functional engineering team responsible for supporting tenants, maintaining platform reliability, and continuously improving the platform's capabilities and user experience.

Your primary focus will be supporting the teams that build, deploy, and operate applications on IronSled. You will take ownership of technical issues and service requests, troubleshoot problems across the platform, and work directly with tenants to identify and implement solutions. You will also collaborate with other platform engineers to resolve complex issues, improve system reliability, and identify opportunities to reduce recurring support needs.

This is a hands-on engineering position, not a traditional help desk role. You will work across Kubernetes environments, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, identity services, networking, and platform integrations. While tenant support will be your primary responsibility, you will also contribute to platform engineering initiatives, automation, infrastructure improvements, and the continued development of IronSled.

This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.

About the Team

IronSled sits within LMI’s Chief Technology Office. We are a small, high-visibility team building and operating a secure application-hosting platform for federal agencies. Our culture is more product-focused and collaborative than a traditional government contracting environment. We move quickly, solve problems directly, and prioritize outcomes over unnecessary process.

At the same time, our users depend on IronSled to operate critical applications, making reliability, security, communication, and attention to detail essential.

You will work closely with the Product Manager, Engineering Lead, platform engineers, application developers, and tenant teams. Because IronSled is continuing to evolve, you will have opportunities to help improve its support processes, documentation, automation, and technical capabilities.

LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact through innovation and speed. By investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI delivers commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready artificial intelligence capabilities to federal agencies at commercial speed.

Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI supports the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors, helping agencies navigate complexity, modernize critical capabilities, and strengthen mission outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems involving Kubernetes, application deployments, CI/CD pipelines, identity and access management, networking, AWS infrastructure, and platform integrations.

  • Work directly with tenant development teams to diagnose issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.

  • Collaborate with other platform engineers on issues requiring broader infrastructure changes or specialized expertise while maintaining ownership of tenant communication and resolution.

  • Support tenant onboarding, environment provisioning, application deployments, access management, and ongoing platform operations.

  • Contribute to the design, maintenance, and improvement of platform infrastructure, services, and engineering workflows.

  • Identify recurring technical issues and develop automation, tooling, or platform improvements that reduce manual intervention and improve tenant self-service.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and operational procedures to improve support efficiency and knowledge sharing.

  • Participate in platform monitoring, incident response, maintenance, and reliability improvements.

  • Work closely with the engineering team to identify and prioritize technical debt, operational improvements, and enhancements that improve the overall tenant experience.
