Mainframe Systems Programmer with Security (RACF) Specialist - AUS PR Minimum

We are looking for multiple seasoned Mainframe System Programmers with a background in Security, preferrably RACF, for a long-term assignment with a key client in 2026/7.

The role will be a combination of onsite/remote/hybrid engagement for an Australian Citizen or Permanent Residency status induviduals ONLY. Preferred candidates can only be based in AUSTRALIA, a preference is for Melbourne, but other in country locations will be considered for the right persons.

Role Purpose:

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to bring their skills and experience to bear and provide Mainframe technology-based services incorporating design, development, delivery and maintenance of technological solutions to meet business needs. Current and future projects very much focus on Mainframe system support, Security hardening and remediation, mentoring and Software replacement and migrations.

Key competencies & experience:

• 15+ years relevant Mainframe Systems Programming experience,
• A background or solid knowledge of Mainframe Security (RACF) - at least 5 years,
• Programming with HLASM and ability to teach others would be highly advantageous,
• The usual standard Mainframe capabilities required, eg. JCL (Job Control Language), ISPF and ISPF Dialogue Management Services, SDSF (Spool Display Search Facility), TSO, REXX, etc.
• Knowledge of SAS (Statistical Analysis System) or similar programming would be highly advantageous, and
• Any other programming experiencing in one or more programming disciplines (eg. Python or HLASM) would be highly desireable.

Key non-technical capabilities:

• Tertiary qualification in a Technology discipline or related field, highly desireable,
• Sound understanding of security, audit and risk management, controls and standard operating procedures highly advantageous,
• Maintain operational effectiveness and security integrity of the mainframe systems,
• Change management including requirements validations, design decisions and testing / quality management,
• Continuous review and adoption of relevant tools and security frameworks to improve process and delivery of access control,
• Provide and exercise security best practice in the undertaking of their day to dayresponsibilities,
• Identify and implement process improvement opportunities and risk reduction initiatives across the mainframe computing enterprise,
• Actively identify, report and implement risk remediation tasks as appropriate to their role, 
• Mentor subordinate staff,
• Interact with audit and compliance personnel and deliver remediation as deemed appropriate.
• Excellent verbal, written/documentation and presentation skills as well as stakeholder management.
