Welcome to the good side of tech 👋
You might have heard about us, but with a different name: Doctoralia. It all started 12 years ago when we asked ourselves: is anyone in healthcare thinking about patients? We jumped in and we empowered patients by giving them access to leave and read reviews about their visit. We then provided doctors with the technology to manage bookings easily and save time, so they could devote themselves to what they always wanted: treating patients. And today is the day in which we ask you: wanna join us in the next step of making the healthcare experience more human?
Docplanner at scale
We are leaders in 13 countries so far, and more than 90 million patients trust us every month. 300k+ specialists believe in us and our product, and so do leading venture capital funds such as Point Nine Capital, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and One Peak Partners. And yet, employing over 2.500 people all over the globe, we managed to keep the startup-mindset we started with over 10 years ago.
At Docplanner we are a diverse group of over 300 people working in Engineering, Data, and Product teams. We are responsible for building the product for all locations. Many of us have been here for over 5 years, yet we still welcome each new person with great joy and excitement.
We could tell you about us, but we will let our reviews on Glassdoor speak for themselves. In case you’d like to see how it feels to be 100% yourself at work, here’s a video of us.
And why should you join us?
Because it feels good to tell your family and your friends how you made the world a little bit better. You go to bed knowing that what you do matters, and that your talents align with your beliefs.
We want to make the healthcare experience more human, and that starts with you being you. We believe that taking the diversity of human experience into account makes a better healthcare experience for all . We’re not just different: we embrace diversity. We will encourage you to come to work your whole self, and that includes not coming to the office at all if you prefer not to, as we're 100% remote friendly.
The Role
At Docplanner, AI-native development is already how we build software. We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to own Booking & Availability: the engine that manages a practice's time, from when professionals are available to how patients get booked into that time.
You will lead the Booking & Availability engineering team, working hand in hand with Product and Design. Your job is to keep the team focused, reliable, and genuinely AI-native, and to stay hands-on in the code yourself.
The stakes are concrete. A slot that shows as free when it isn't is a double-booked doctor. A reminder that never sends is an empty chair. The team's job is simple to say and hard to do: fill the calendar with reliable scheduling, effortless booking, and fewer empty slots.
We want to move faster from idea to validated value for practices and patients. That takes a founder's mindset: running quick experiments, cutting what doesn't work, and pivoting early when user feedback points in a new direction.
What You'll Own
Booking & Availability is one of four sub-areas in Docplanner's PMS area, alongside Visit Experience, Clinic Operations, and Practice Adoption. Its mission: help practices make the most of every hour. Its vision: every available hour is booked by the right patient, with no manual coordination.
Be the connective layer between PMSs: co-design shared modules with other PMS teams, help modernize and migrate local implementations, and ensure what we build serves every market, not only one
Availability: how professionals define their working hours, rules, and exceptions.
Scheduling: the calendar engine that turns availability into bookable slots, without conflicts.
Booking Notifications: the confirmations and reminders that get patients to the visit.
Waiting List: recovering cancelled slots by offering them to patients who want them.
Noa Reception: our AI product line that resolves patients' reception requests without staff.
What Success Looks Like in 6 Months
Keep a high-performing senior team engaged and growing, including when promotion paths are limited.
The sub-area's metrics have baselines, and you can show the team moving them.
Noa Reception is carrying real reception work in live practices, and usage data, not guesses, decides what the team builds next.
Scheduling and booking are measurably more reliable: fewer incidents, faster recovery, and practices that trust the calendar.
You're making deliberate trade-offs between foundational work and fast experimentation, and you can explain the calls: what you invested in, what you deferred, and why.
You have established working relationships and shared direction with the other PMS teams.
You're an active contributor who prototypes solutions and leads by showing rather than telling through AI-native development.
What You'll Do
Own performance management for your team: set clear expectations, give direct and regular feedback, run reviews and calibrations, and deal with underperformance early.
Level up your engineers: build individual growth plans, coach through pairing and code review, create stretch opportunities, and grow the next senior engineers and tech leads.
Hire well as the sub-area grows, and shape a team that doesn't need you for every decision.
Work hand in hand with Product and Design to decide where to invest: which foundations to build, which bets deserve a fast experiment, and when to pivot.
Own the reliability of the scheduling engine: correctness under concurrent bookings, recurring rules and time zones, and incident response practices you can trust.
Stay hands-on: work directly in the team's codebase, prototyping, implementing features and architectural changes, not just reviewing them.
Keep the team's AI-native practices sharp as tools evolve, and keep quality high and operational burden low as delivery speeds up.
Track and communicate impact with concrete metrics.
What We're Looking For
In a sentence: someone who can code the future, cares about the practices and patients on the other side of the calendar, and inspires others to follow.
8+ years of software engineering experience.
4+ years leading engineering teams in product companies, including hiring, growth, and performance management.
Experience driving platform or shared-component work across multiple teams or systems, where you don’t control all the priorities.
Experience shipping systems where uptime and data integrity have real consequences, and the technical depth to own architecture and quality calls pragmatically.
A track record of growing people: you can point to engineers who levelled up under your leadership, and to difficult performance situations you handled well.
Hands-on experience using AI to speed up how code is written, reviewed, and refactored, with good judgment on when not to rely on it.
Experience driving AI adoption across a team, including bringing along skeptical or hesitant engineers
Proven ability to manage dependencies and stakeholders across organizations with different incentives.
A founder mindset: you move quickly from idea to experiment, validate with real users, and change direction without ego when the evidence says so.
You thrive in ambiguity and enjoy being the first to try something new, figuring out what works and helping your team navigate the same path.
Fluent English.
Nice to Have
Experience with scheduling, calendaring, or booking systems (availability rules, calendar sync, marketplace booking).
Production experience with LLM-powered or conversational products (chat or voice agents), including evaluation and guardrails.
Experience with notification systems at scale (SMS, email, push), where delivery and timing matter.
Exposure to healthcare, clinic workflows, or regulated data environments.
Experience working at scale. That said, we care more about how you think, the impact you drive, and your focus on meaningful user outcomes than the size of your previous company.
Spanish or another language of our markets.
Let’s talk money
A salary adequate to your experience and skills.
Flexible remuneration and benefits system via Flexoh, which includes: restaurant card, transportation card, kindergarten, and training tax savings.
True flexibility and work-life balance
Remote or hybrid work model with our hub in Barcelona.
Flexible working hours (fully flexible, as in most cases you only have to be on a couple of meetings weekly).
Summer intensive schedule during July and August (work 7 hours, finish earlier).
23 paid holidays, with exchangeable local bank holidays.
Additional paid holiday on your birthday or work anniversary (you choose what you want to celebrate).
Health comes first
Private healthcare plan with Adeslas for you and subsidized for your family (medical and dental).
Access to hundreds of gyms for a symbolic fee in partnership for you and your family with Wellhub.
Access to iFeel, a technological platform for mental wellness offering online psychological support and counseling.
Keep growing with us
Free English and Spanish classes.
We promote and embrace equal opportunities in our hiring process, and also every day at work. When you apply for our roles you receive equal treatment regardless of age, disabilities, gender reassignment, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or parental status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation or any other dimension of human difference. If you require additional support in your recruitment process, we kindly encourage you to let us know. Behind those words you’re reading, there’s a person (hi!) who already helped a candidate by adapting the interviews, and now we’re lucky to have this person with us. So, even if you’ve never asked for it before, may this serve as a sign that, now, you can do so. We can only truly be equal if we adapt to each other.
“We believe all humans, in all their beautiful diversity, should have equal rights, dignity and respect. Period.” Mariusz Gralewski, CEO
