Resident Network Operations Engineer – Enterprise Campus & Mist – freelance – remote, United States

Comgent is seeking a Network Operations Engineer to support enterprise campus and wireless infrastructure. You will be a primary technical liaison for customer teams, combining incident resolution with migration, refresh and lifecycle planning. The role uses Juniper switching and Mist assurance tools to improve network health and the experience of users.

Responsibilities

• Operate campus and wireless networks, investigate complex incidents and work with vendor support and engineering teams to resolve faults and establish root causes.
  
• Monitor service health and user experience, analyse AI-driven assurance data, and turn findings into practical operational improvements.
  
• Support large-scale network migrations, technology refreshes, software upgrades and infrastructure expansions, including transitions from legacy wireless to Mist-managed and cloud-managed networking environments, with operational readiness validation.
  
• Prepare implementation, test, validation and rollback plans, together with runbooks that enable consistent operational delivery.
  
• Coordinate hardware lifecycle management, including replacement planning, RMA management and identification of service risks.
  
• Report service trends and risks, transfer knowledge to customer teams, and encourage useful automation of operational tasks.
  

Requirements

• 5+ years supporting large-scale enterprise network environments;
  
• Enterprise campus L2/L3 switching and routing; VLANs, spanning tree, link aggregation, multicast, high availability, OSPF/BGP; large-scale wireless operations and migrations; EVPN/VXLAN where applicable.
  
• Technology environment: EX, QFX, Mist Wireless Assurance, Mist Wired Assurance, Marvis AI.
  
• Based and legally authorised to work in the United States.
  

Competencies

Strong customer communication, technical documentation and presentation skills are needed. You should be comfortable acting as an independent technical adviser, mentoring customer teams and working in visible enterprise production environments.
