Software Engineer | Medicat, a Banyan Software company

Role Overview

We are looking for a back-end Software Engineer to help build the services and APIs behind MedicatOne. This is a new role, created as we expand our immunization solutions for allied health. You will start by building integrations with third-party providers, such as background check and drug testing companies. Over time, you will take on production support and server-side development across the platform.

This role suits an engineer who writes clean, maintainable code, learns an existing codebase quickly, and takes care with changes to a system that campus clinics depend on. You will join a growing US-based development team, and your work will have a direct impact on student health.

What you will do

• Build integrations: Design and build integrations with external services, including background check and drug testing providers.
• Develop back-end services: Design, build, and maintain back-end services and RESTful APIs in C# and .NET.
• Own your data layer: Model data and write efficient, well-indexed SQL Server queries. Write safe, reviewable scripts for schema and data changes.
• Improve the platform: Strengthen the performance, reliability, and security of existing services, including caching and background processing.
• Support production: Investigate and resolve production issues in the code you own, working with data that includes protected health information.
• Test your work: Write unit and integration tests with every change, and work with QA on end-to-end coverage.
• Collaborate: Take part in code review, write clear technical specs and pull request descriptions, and work with product and front-end teammates to shape requirements into technical designs and realistic estimates.

Qualifications for success

1. 3-5 years of professional back-end software development.
2. Strong experience with C# and .NET, including ASP.NET Core, and with designing and building RESTful APIs.
3. Solid SQL skills, preferably with SQL Server, including schema design, query writing, and performance tuning. Experience with an ORM such as Entity Framework.
4. Hands-on experience with AI-assisted and agentic coding tools, with the judgment to review and verify what they produce.
5. A habit of writing automated tests, and comfort with git in a team setting, including branching, pull requests, and code review.
6. A computer science degree, with a strong grounding in theory and fundamentals, is preferred.
7. Clear written and verbal communication.
8. Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with healthcare, higher education, or another regulated industry where HIPAA or similar privacy rules apply.
• Experience at a small or mid-sized SaaS company.
• Experience maintaining or modernizing an older codebase.
• Caching with Redis or a similar tool.
• CI/CD pipelines, such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Experience with single sign-on (SAML, OIDC) or payment integrations.
• Some familiarity with React or TypeScript.

Compensation and posting statements

The expected base salary for this position is: USD $110,000 - $130,000, plus additional annual bonus. Salary is based on a number of factors including market conditions, location and may vary depending on job-related skills and experience.
