Computer Software / SaaS

The biggest unmet need in AI today is getting access to the right training data. Data holders often don’t know where to start and are rightly concerned about governance, intellectual property, and security implications. AI companies can spend years finding and negotiating access to the data they need. Protege is solving these problems by providing an easy-to-use platform to connect data holders with vetted data users.

Job description

Company Overview:

We are building Protege to solve the biggest unmet need in AI — getting access to the right training data. The process today is time intensive, incredibly expensive, and often ends in failure. The Protege platform facilitates the secure, efficient, and privacy-centric exchange of AI training data.

Solving AI’s data problem is a generational opportunity. We’re backed by world-class investors and already powering partnerships with some of the most ambitious teams in AI. The company that succeeds will be one of the largest in AI — and in tech.

We’re a lean, fast-moving, high-trust team of builders who are obsessed with velocity and impact. Our culture is built for people who thrive on ambiguity, own outcomes, and want to shape the future of data and AI.

The Opportunity

This is the perfect role for a marketing generalist who uses their unique combination of marketing foundations (2+ of product, growth, content/brand, ecosystem), operational rigor, AI tools, and creative “taste” to produce and direct marketing campaigns that drive commercial results and brand recognition.

You won’t start from zero. You’ll report to an AI-pilled Head of Marketing, alongside an field marketing/events whiz who’s run 20+ events a quarter, a seasoned community builder, and engaged executives who are equally allergic to random acts of marketing. It’s a startup, so things are messy – but it’s one’s first 0-to-1 startup rodeo. Your job is to connect the Lego blocks—and build the missing ones.

You’ll report to the Head of Marketing and work alongside startup veterans to give leverage to our existing growth channels and jumpstart new ones.

Who You Are

Today, you’re someone who wants to be the “super IC” who combines core marketing and growth fundamentals and first principles of the past decade and combine it with the next gen marketing tools of today to drive outsized results. You’re already experience with the marketing waves the future — such as narrative new media, agentic workflows, cross-channel campaign building, community building, and IRL activations, to name a few — and you want to join a scaling AI company that recognizes the asymmetric advantage this gives those that ride the wave accordingly.

Tomorrow, you might be a future head of marketing, leader of a core marketing discipline, or found your own company or launch a brand where content is a core differentiator. In preparation for that future, you’re excited to join a place where you can build your own personal brand in tandem with a scaling AI business, with a team’s invested in your development. You want to be pushed to do the best work of your life, while having the latitude for testing, developing, and scaling what that work could look like.

Signs you might be a great fit:

  • You use next-gen tools without throwing out a decade of hard-won fundamentals: ie. know your audience, tell a story that matters, earn distribution, and measure what moves the business.

  • You care whether your campaigns make a direct impact on business results — not vanity metrics

  • You love new media: you test new formats yourself, and you’re well versed in what hits online

  • You tried all the AI tools – and figured out what works for you & your team’s workflow

  • You’re a natural systems thinker at understanding how to combine different areas of marketing into a cohesive plan – you don’t hand things off to the expert, you expect to be the expert

  • You have creative itches that show up unexpectedly, whether at work or in hobbies

  • It’s not your first scaling startup experience

What You’ll Do

  • Own campaigns from idea to impact: brief, copy, landing page, distribution, follow-up, and results. Sometimes, the right-sized campaign should go live in a day. Other times, it takes weeks of careful preparation.

  • Make good stories travel. Turn product, research, executive, and community insights into social, email, new-media, and partner-channel content that people actually want. You’re not just in charge of the content or the distribution – it’s your job to make sure the right content reaches the right people.

  • Connect the pieces. Bring events, community, content, and commercial follow-up together around a clear audience and goal.

  • Test what works. Run focused growth experiments across paid, organic, sponsorships, partnerships, and conversion—not every channel at once.

  • Build the machinery. Use data, agents, and automation to improve campaign production, targeting, tracking, and handoffs. Own the quality of what you ship.

  • Close the loop. Know what drove relevant engagement and commercial conversations, what wasted effort, and what to do next.

This is a builder’s role. You’ll orchestrate campaigns and roll up your sleeves to do it yourself.

What Success Looks Like

  • 30 days: You understand the business and own recurring work.

  • 60 days: You’ve shipped an integrated campaign and removed execution bottlenecks.

  • 90 days: You run a reliable campaign rhythm, have tested new growth opportunities, and make the whole team more effective.

What You Bring

Must-Haves

  • Proof you ship. Campaigns, assets, or systems you personally built, then what happened.

  • Strong writing + taste. Complex ideas made clear, written + visual + campaign cohesiveness w/ the channels.

  • First-principles judgment. You start with the audience and business goal, not a channel checklist.

  • Technical resourcefulness. Use AI to build — not just generate more copy.

  • Ownership from start-to-finish. Don’t need someone to look over shoulder, but know when to get leverage

  • Ambition without ego. You want direct feedback, high standards, and to discover your potential

Nice-to-Haves

  • Early-stage B2B, agency, growth, or GTM experience with broad execution responsibility.

  • A clear spike in campaigns, creative, growth, web, marketing operations, or automation.

  • Experience with technical audiences, AI, healthcare, events, or communities.

You don’t need to be great at everything. Bring range, a learning curve, and something we can build around.

Protege Values

  • Pass the Loved Ones’ Test

  • Always Find a Way

  • Go Fast and Grow Fast

  • Practice Kindness and Candor

  • Deliver Together

  • Own the Outcome. Hone the Craft.
