Job description

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Director of Cloud Architecture & Platform Engineering who thrives at the intersection of high-level strategy and deep-dive technical execution. This is a combined role designed for a leader who isn't afraid to open a PR or troubleshoot a production K8s cluster while simultaneously building an infrastructure roadmap.
In this role, you will lead a lean, high-output team of engineers. You will spend roughly 50% of your time "on the tools"—architecting core systems and building foundational code—and the remaining time driving the team, setting strategy, and ensuring our platform meets the rigorous security demands of the healthcare industry. Responsibilities:

(Technical Execution)

  • Lead Architect: Act as the primary architect for our cloud environment, personally designing the systems that handle high-volume clinical data and PHI.
  • Core Infrastructure Development: Building out CI/CD templates, refining our Kubernetes service mesh, migrating legacy cloud platform to a future PaaS (Platform as a Service) model
  • Prototyping & R&D: Rapidly prototype new platform features—such as automated compliance monitoring or developer self-service portals—before handing them off to the team for scaling.
  • Tier 3 Escalation: Act as a hands-on escalation point for complex architectural issues or critical production incidents, providing "in-the-trenches" technical leadership.
  • Sustain environments:  Sustain cloud and platform environments commensurate with “clean” environment, free of vulnerabilities, legacy code, and legacy architecture practices.

(Leadership & Strategy)

  • Team Growth: Manage and mentor a specialized team of cloud and platform engineers. Conduct code reviews not just for quality, but as teaching moments to elevate the team’s skill sets.
  • Strategic Roadmap: Define the "Platform-as-a-Product" vision, ensuring every technical initiative directly accelerates our product's time-to-value for healthcare partners.
  • Regulatory Governance: Partner with the Security and Compliance teams to automate HIPAA and HITRUST requirements, turning "check-box compliance" into "automated guardrails."
  • FinOps & Budgeting: Oversee the cloud budget with a surgical eye, implementing automated cost-saving measures without sacrificing performance or reliability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Experience: 5-8+ years in Cloud/Infrastructure Engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role (Lead, Manager, or Director) within a scale-up environment.
  • Healthcare Proficiency: Deep, hands-on experience managing infrastructure within HIPAA, HITRUST, or SOC2 environments. You understand that in HealthTech, "done" means "secure and compliant."
  • Scaling Mindset: Experience taking a platform from "early-stage scrappy" to "enterprise-grade robust" with scaling capability.
  • Service Mindset:  Operate as a direct partner to application engineering and data engineering teams, serving as an expert with cloud capabilities
Skills:
  • Advanced Stack: Expert-level proficiency in Kubernetes (EKS/AKS) and Infrastructure as Code for automation.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Development: Mastery of automation tools to create seamless deployment workflows.
  • Advanced knowledge of architecting secure network topologies.
  • IAM & Governance: Deep understanding of IAM and Service Control Policies (SCPs) to enforce the principle of least privilege across a multi-account organization.
  • Cloud FinOps & Observability: Skill in using cloud financial management tooling to balance high performance with budget management.
