Job description

Flexera saves customers billions of dollars in wasted technology spend. A pioneer in Hybrid ITAM and FinOps, Flexera provides award-winning, data-oriented SaaS solutions for technology value optimization (TVO), enabling IT, finance, procurement and cloud teams to gain deep insights into cost optimization, compliance and risks for each business service. Flexera One solutions are built on a set of definitive customer, supplier and industry data, powered by our Technology Intelligence Platform, that enables organizations to visualize their Enterprise Technology Blueprint™ in hybrid environments—from on-premises to SaaS to containers to cloud.

We’re transforming the software industry.  We’re Flexera.  With more than 50,000 customers across the world, we’re achieving that goal. But we know we can’t do any of that without our team.  Ready to help us re-imagine the industry during a time of substantial growth and ambitious plans?  Come and see why we’re consistently recognized by Gartner, Forrester and IDC as a category leader in the marketplace. Learn more at flexera.com

We are building a new model for software engineering: a small, autonomous team that combines strong engineering fundamentals with AI coding agents to deliver valuable software quickly, safely, and reliably.

We are looking for motivated Software Engineers who want to develop their engineering skills while working in an AI-first environment. You will work closely with a Principal Engineer and another software engineer to design, build, test, deploy, and improve real software used by our business and customers.

AI coding tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex will be integral to your daily workflow. Rather than writing every line of code manually, you will learn to direct AI agents, provide the right context, break down problems, evaluate generated solutions, and verify that the resulting software actually works.

We are hiring engineers who can use AI to solve problems, not simply people who can generate code with AI.

This role offers the opportunity to build production software, develop strong technical judgment, take ownership of meaningful features, and grow faster through hands-on experience and mentorship.

What You'll Do:

Build and Deliver Software

  • Implement product features, APIs, integrations, internal tools, and engineering improvements using our technology stack
  • Turn requirements and technical designs into small, well-defined implementation tasks
  • Use AI coding agents to accelerate implementation, explore alternative solutions, generate tests, and improve existing code
  • Contribute across the software development lifecycle, including requirements clarification, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support
  • Deliver working software in small increments, incorporating feedback quickly
  • Take ownership of assigned features from initial understanding through production readiness

Work Effectively with AI Coding Agents

  • Use tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and other approved AI engineering tools as part of your everyday development process
  • Provide AI agents with clear objectives, relevant repository context, constraints, and acceptance criteria
  • Break larger tasks into manageable steps and coordinate multiple AI-assisted tasks when appropriate
  • Review generated code for correctness, readability, security, performance, and consistency with existing architecture
  • Identify hallucinations, incorrect assumptions, unnecessary complexity, and subtle defects in AI-generated implementations
  • Use AI to investigate unfamiliar codebases, understand errors, explain complex logic, and accelerate learning
  • Improve your workflows by capturing reusable instructions, documenting discoveries, and sharing effective techniques with teammates

Test, Debug, and Maintain Quality

  • Write and maintain unit tests, integration tests, and other appropriate automated checks
  • Reproduce bugs, identify root causes, and implement durable fixes rather than superficial workarounds
  • Validate AI-generated code against explicit requirements and expected behavior
  • Participate in code reviews and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Use automated testing, linting, type checking, and CI/CD pipelines to catch problems early
  • Follow established security practices and avoid exposing credentials, sensitive information, or production data to unauthorized tools
  • Help maintain clear documentation and understandable code that other engineers can confidently modify

Take Ownership and Collaborate

  • Own assigned features and technical improvements, communicating progress, risks, and blockers early
  • Work directly with the team lead to clarify requirements and make appropriate technical decisions
  • Collaborate with your teammate to review implementations, investigate problems, and share knowledge
  • Ask thoughtful questions, challenge questionable assumptions, and suggest simpler or better solutions
  • Participate in technical discussions and contribute ideas that improve the product and development process
  • Gradually take responsibility for larger features and make more decisions independently as your skills develop

Learn and Improve Continuously

  • Build strong foundations in software design, debugging, testing, security, and system architecture
  • Learn how to use AI effectively without becoming dependent on code that you cannot explain or maintain
  • Explore new tools and techniques that improve the quality and efficiency of software delivery
  • Share lessons learned from successful implementations, failed experiments, and production issues
  • Develop the skills needed to become an independent engineer capable of owning increasingly complex systems

Required Qualifications:

  • Foundational programming experience through professional work, internships, academic projects, or substantial personal projects
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming language relevant to our technology stack
  • Understanding of core software engineering concepts, including data structures, control flow, APIs, debugging, and version control
  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative development practices
  • Ability to break problems into smaller steps, investigate unfamiliar concepts, and learn new technologies independently
  • Interest in using AI tools to improve software development, with a willingness to learn effective prompting, context management, and code validation
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to ask for help when needed.
  • A sense of ownership, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to delivering reliable software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, or comparable agentic development tools
  • Experience building applications, APIs, integrations, automation scripts, or other working software
  • Familiarity with automated testing, CI/CD, cloud platforms, containers, or relational databases
  • Experience reading, debugging, and extending an existing codebase rather than working exclusively on greenfield projects
  • Examples of using AI to build a project, solve a difficult technical problem, or improve an existing implementation
  • Interest in learning multiple layers of the application stack and contributing beyond narrowly defined coding tasks
