NuScale Power

Nuclear Power & Energy

NuScale has designed a new kind of nuclear power plant that is smarter, safer, cleaner, and more cost competitive than the large gigawatt nuclear power plants of the past.At the heart of the NuScale power plant is the NuScale Power Module™ (NPM), a small modular reactor (SMR) that brings together traditional components—the reactor vessel, steam generator, pressurizer, and containment—into a single, simplified, and fully factory-fabricated unit. Each NPM can produce 77 megawatts of electricity (MWe), and one NuScale plant can house up to 12 NPMs for a total of 924 MWe (gross). This scalability feature is unique to NuScale and allows for customization of facility output to match demand and project economics.NuScale has achieved a paradigm shift in the level of safety of a nuclear power plant facility—safety comes first, second to none. NuScale’s Triple Crown for Nuclear Plant Safety™ design ensures that on loss of all electricity to the power station, an undesirable situation for other nuclear plant designs, each NPM will safely shut down and self-cool, indefinitely, with no need for operator or computer action, AC or DC power, or additional water. This capability is a first for commercial nuclear power.Learn about NuScale’s work and our mission to improve the quality of life for all humankind by continuously improving nuclear power at www.nuscalepower.com

We strive to build an inclusive culture that celebrates individuality, which fuels our innovation and connects us closer to the global mission we serve: to provide a clean energy future for all humankind. NuScale is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against otherwise qualified applicants on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, age, sex, marital status, national origin, disability or handicap, or veteran status.

Pay for interns still completing an undergraduate degree will be paid an hourly wage of $25.00 per hour while those currently enrolled in a graduate program will receive an hourly wage of $30.00 per hour.

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible, students must be actively enrolled full-time in an accredited technical degree program or pursuing an advanced degree. Also, due to timeliness and our necessary compliance with obtaining government approved authorizations, consideration is limited to those students currently eligible to work in the United States per 10 CFR Part 810 rules, and we are unable to consider students authorized to work on F-1 or M-1 Visas.

POSITION SUMMARY:  The majority of our technical internships are ongoing throughout the academic year, with schedules that align with individual class schedules to ensure education remains a priority.  Interns will have the ability to increase to 40 hours/week during the summer.  Since we employ interns from all over the country, work may be fully remote, or we can accommodate those from local colleges and universities who prefer to work in either our Corvallis, OR or Houston, TX office locations.  The successful candidate will be currently enrolled in an accredited engineering program and will work in close collaboration with NuScale personnel to complete a range of departmental focused efforts.  Specific areas of focus include:

  • Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Research & Development
  • Supply Chain
  • Project Management
  • Business Development
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Human Resources
  • Accounting
  • Finance

All internship positions, regardless of work location, require self-motivated students skilled at working and learning through remote platforms (e.g., video, phone, email).

NOTE:  Our 2027 Internships are expected to start in May/June 2027, and we are now screening and interviewing candidates for future opportunities.  All applications submitted will be reviewed by a member of NuScale's Talent Acquisition Team.
