Job description

Localpayment is a fintech company specializing in local and cross-border payment solutions for emerging markets. Our platform enables global companies to accept payments in local currencies through native methods in each country, facilitating their international expansion.

In 2024, Localpayment entered into a strategic partnership with Aleph Group, a global technology and digital media company. This collaboration enhances our capabilities and reach, combining robust payment infrastructure with a broader digital ecosystem.

We are looking for a Compliance Officer to be the cornerstone of Localpayment's global compliance and risk framework. You'll own the end-to-end compliance and risk strategy — from AML/KYC controls and data protection to regulatory engagement, licensing, and due diligence with banking and payment partners across every market we operate in. This is a high-impact, highly autonomous role at the intersection of fintech, regulation, and global payments.
  • 5+ years of experience in compliance and risk roles within fintech, payments, banking, or financial services.
  • Academic background in Law is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of AML/CFT frameworks and data protection regulation across multiple jurisdictions
  • Experience with cross-border payments, PSP ecosystems, or acquiring bank relationships.
  • Knowledge of global and local regulatory frameworks, with hands-on experience managing licenses and working directly with regulatory bodies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English — able to draft policies, reports, and regulatory correspondence independently, and to lead meetings with regulators, partners, and leadership.
  • Hands-on proficiency with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, NotebookLM, or equivalent) to accelerate compliance and regulatory work.
  • Structured, detail-oriented profile with a strategic mindset and the ability to build and lead a compliance function.
  • Lead Localpayment's global compliance and risk management strategy, setting the direction for the function as the company scales into new markets.
  • Ensure adherence to AML, KYC, data protection, and other regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions where Localpayment operates.
  • Design and maintain internal controls and monitoring frameworks to mitigate legal, operational, and reputational risk.
  • Manage regulatory audits and build and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities and banking/payment partners.
  • Own the licensing strategy and regulatory engagement process as Localpayment expands into new markets
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Operations, Product, and Sales to embed compliance and risk requirements into product flows and partner agreements.
  • Build and track compliance and risk metrics and reporting dashboards; proactively flag risks and remediation needs to senior leadership and the Board.
  • Use AI tools (Claude, NotebookLM, or equivalent) to accelerate regulatory research, policy drafting, and compliance documentation.
