Job description

Take your career to new heights with Loopio! 🚀✨

Loopio is on the hunt for a Staff Software Developer who thrives on solving complex challenges and is driven by curiosity. If you're passionate about building scalable, high-impact solutions and love collaborating across disciplines, this is your chance to make your mark.

You’ll join our Contextualized Understanding (CU) Mission Team- a team of Engineers, Applied Scientists, Product Managers, and Designers building the knowledge graph and AI agents that give Loopio a deep understanding of each customer’s business, and the evaluation framework that keeps every answer accurate and trustworthy. Our platform is used by some of the world’s leading organisations, and we value clean code, measurable quality, and knowledge sharing. From shaping technical direction to mentoring teammates, you’ll play a key role in scaling our systems and evolving our product.

We're deeply collaborative — whether it's pair programming, technical design reviews, or whiteboarding ideas, we believe the best solutions are built together. If you're excited by elegant architecture, thoughtful product development, and leaving things better than you found them — let's build the future together.

This role requires close collaboration with teams across Canada, the UK, and India. To accommodate the time zone differences, you will be expected to work from 11:00am – 7:30pm IST, with occasional evening calls to overlap with North American colleagues and customers.

💻 What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the design and end-to-end delivery of complex features for Loopio's web platform — from architecture through to production.

  • Go beyond writing Python or Java: design and ship reusable frameworks and shared libraries that raise the bar for how every team at Loopio builds, so good patterns scale instead of getting reinvented.

  • Drive architectural decisions and system-level thinking, influencing design and execution across teams.

  • Proactively build tooling and safeguards that prevent bugs before they reach customers — because you can't stand crappy software.

  • Contributing to Loopio’s AI roadmap by evaluating third-party models, establishing patterns for agentic workflows and knowledge-graph-grounded retrieval, and defining technical and evaluation guidelines for AI-powered features.

  • Drive the technical design discussions and facilitate technical decision-making, driving consensus in ambiguous situations.

  • Partner closely with the ML team to design, integrate, and productionise AI agents and knowledge-graph capabilities, turning research prototypes into reliable, well-evaluated features.

  • Engage directly with customers to gather detailed feedback, and collaborate closely with Product Managers and Product Designers in an agile environment to bring features to life and iterate on them.

  • Mentor and coach other engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and code reviews, helping build a culture of knowledge-sharing and open feedback.

✨ What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • You are still hands-on. You ship production code every week while setting technical direction. Coding and delivery are core to who you are as an engineer.

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of designing and delivering complex software systems at scale.

  • Deep experience leading architectural discussions, influencing cross-team technical decisions, and driving consensus in ambiguous situations.

  • Strong backend/API experience in Python, Java or PHP, with a track record of designing APIs as platform capabilities (versioned, well-documented contracts consumed by multiple teams and services), building for scale and reliability, and integrating with third-party systems.

  • Hands-on experience building and operating cloud infrastructure like AWS or Azure.

  • Frontend development experience with a solid understanding of React and JavaScript.

  • Strong understanding of database design and relational databases such as MySQL.

  • Exposure to AI technologies, particularly LLMs (e.g. OpenAI, Claude), embeddings, or natural language processing. Deep ML expertise is not required, but familiarity with integrating modern AI APIs is highly valuable.

  • Experience mentoring other engineers through coaching, design reviews, and code reviews; prior experience as a technical lead is an asset.

  • A growing passion for driving processes and improving software development productivity for your team.

  • Nice to have: TypeScript or Python, microservices and event-driven architecture, search and retrieval systems (semantic search, RAG), graph databases and knowledge-graph modelling, agent frameworks and tool-calling patterns, and experience evaluating and monitoring LLM-based features.

Questioning your qualifications? Read this ‼️ Hi there, we recognize that all too often, potential candidates don’t apply for a position simply because they don’t hit every single criteria included in the job description—particularly members of underrepresented groups.

Whether or not your experience ✅ checks off all the boxes on a job posting, we still encourage you to apply to ensure that your application receives a review from our team. We understand that a resume can only showcase so much during the applicant stage, so we've created prompts in the application for you to share more about yourself. If you've made a career transition (or a few!), you’re self taught in a new role, or you have skills/experience you’d like to highlight, we want to hear more about what you could bring to the table.

AI in Recruitment 👩🏻‍💻 At Loopio, we leverage  artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance our recruitment process. These tools assist with tasks such as resume screening, drafting preliminary job descriptions, generating initial interview questions, transcription and occasionally sourcing prospective candidates. However, AI is never used to make final hiring decisions; our use of AI  serves to support repetitive and administrative tasks in order to streamline our hiring and recruitment workflows. We are committed to the responsible use of AI in our hiring practices, prioritizing both  an improved candidate experience and operational efficiency. Our standardized hiring practices remain focused on reducing biases, with all key hiring decisions  solely made by our team. We continuously review and refine our hiring practices to align with  industry best practices and evolving legal guidelines

AI Usage in Interviews 🤖 The Loopio interview process is designed to help us better understand your professional experiences, as well as your unique perspective and approach to delivery and collaboration. To ensure a fair and accurate assessment, we expect candidates to refrain from using AI-generated content to produce responses to our interview questions during the live interview, as our goal is to evaluate your own knowledge and problem-solving abilities - not those of an AI assistant. If AI-generated responses are identified during the interview, Loopio reserves the right to disqualify candidates from the interview process.

For specific roles that include a take-home assignment, our AI Interviewee Policy allows the use of AI for initial support; however, the final submission must be a true reflection of your personal insights, skills and decision-making.

Loopio is an equal opportunity employer that is deeply committed to building equitable workplaces that are diverse and inclusive. We actively encourage candidates from all backgrounds and lifestyles to consider us as a future employer. Please contact a member of our Talent Experience team (work@loopio.com) should you require accommodations at any point during our virtual interview processes.
