Job description

About the Position

Pond is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support our Aviation Fuels team in the design and delivery of aviation fueling and petroleum infrastructure projects. This position is open to fully remote candidates, with occasional travel to Pond offices for team building, professional development, and training. A hybrid arrangement is preferred for candidates within commuting distance of our offices in Peachtree Corners, GA; Atlanta, GA; Tampa, FL; The Woodlands, TX; or Denver, CO.

This role is ideal for a mechanical engineer with experience in piping systems, pumps, fuel storage, or industrial process systems who is looking to expand their technical expertise and take on greater project responsibility.

The successful candidate will support design development, engineering calculations, project coordination, and construction-phase services for DoD, federal, commercial airport, and industrial fuel-system projects. This position offers an opportunity to work across disciplines, contribute to projects from planning through closeout, and develop toward future project engineering or mechanical/fuels discipline leadership opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support senior engineers with fuel-system design, engineering calculations, and technical deliverables.
  • Prepare piping plans, equipment layouts, details, specifications, equipment schedules, and supporting calculations.
  • Assist with the design and coordination of piping systems, pumps, storage tanks, fuel farms, and related equipment.
  • Support site investigations, existing-condition assessments, and evaluations of aviation fueling and petroleum infrastructure.
  • Coordinate design interfaces with civil, structural, electrical, controls, environmental, construction, and client teams.
  • Support project planning and execution from kickoff through closeout, including developing and tracking intermediate deliverables, resolving design issues, and coordinating project requirements.
  • Assist with technical submittal reviews, construction observations, field coordination, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Support projects involving AFCEC, USACE, NAVFAC, DLA, FAA, airport authorities, and other federal and commercial clients.
  • Contribute to project schedules, budgets, quality reviews, and client communications.
  • Continue developing technical and project management capabilities with the goal of advancing into a Project Engineer or Mechanical/Fuels Discipline Lead role.
  • Travel periodically to project sites, including airports and military installations, as project needs require.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 6+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience supporting projects for AFCEC, USACE, NAVFAC, DLA, FAA, or similar federal agencies and infrastructure clients.
  • Experience with piping layouts, equipment selection, pump systems, hydraulic calculations, storage tanks, fuel farms, or industrial process systems.
  • Experience preparing engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment schedules, and other design deliverables.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Plant 3D, Navisworks, or similar engineering design and coordination tools.
  • Ability to support aviation fueling, Department of Defense (DoD) petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL), airport infrastructure, and industrial fuel-system projects.
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
  • Ability to travel periodically to project sites as needed.
