Your day at NTT DATA

The hypervisor and virtualisation engineer, specialist or architect provides operational, engineering and architectural support for enterprise virtualisation platforms. The role ensures that client environments remain available, secure, resilient and capable of supporting business-critical workloads.

Depending on the assigned level, the position ranges from second-line platform support through to technical leadership and virtualisation architecture.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the health, availability and performance of virtualisation platforms.
• Investigate and resolve incidents involving hosts, clusters, virtual machines, management platforms and associated services.
• Administer virtual infrastructure, including provisioning, configuration and lifecycle activities.
• Perform approved patching, upgrades and platform maintenance.
• Support capacity, availability, performance and resilience management.
• Troubleshoot integration issues across compute, storage, network, backup and disaster-recovery services.
• Support migrations, platform consolidation and infrastructure-refresh activities.
• Maintain platform documentation, operating procedures and configuration records.
• Identify opportunities to automate provisioning, monitoring and operational activities.
• At senior levels, define virtualisation standards, reference designs and platform roadmaps.
• At L5, provide architecture leadership for complex private-cloud and virtualization solutions.

• Enterprise hypervisors and virtualization platforms.
• Host, cluster and virtual-machine management.
• High availability, workload mobility and disaster recovery.
• Virtual networking and storage integration.
• Capacity and performance management.
• Automation, orchestration and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
• Platform monitoring, backup and recovery.

Relevant certifications

• VMware VCP or higher.
• Microsoft Azure Local or Hyper-V certification.
• Nutanix NCP.
• Vendor-specific virtualisation and data-centre certifications.
