Job description

Description

Paylocity is an award-winning provider of cloud-based HR and payroll software solutions, offering the most complete platform for the modern workforce. The company has become one of the fastest-growing HCM software providers worldwide by offering an intuitive, easy-to-use product suite that helps businesses automate and streamline HR and payroll processes, attract and retain talent, and build a strong workplace culture.

While traditional HR and payroll providers automate basic HR processes such as payroll and benefits administration, Paylocity goes further by developing tools that HR and businesses need to compete for talent and deliver against the expectations of the modern workforce.

We give our employees what they need to succeed, including great benefits and perks! We offer medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and a 401(k) match, as well as perks that support you, your family, and your finances. And if it’s career development you desire, we provide that, too! At Paylocity, people matter most and have always been at the heart of our business.

As part of the Sales & Marketing team, you’ll help us solve challenges and succeed as you grow and understand the unique needs of our clients and tailor easy-to-use solutions to deliver the performance they need.

With a position in Sales & Marketing, you’ll strengthen our relationships with clients, anticipate their needs, and think outside the box to unlock new possibilities.

Position Overview

The 401(k) Account Executive will support the growth of Paylocity’s retirement services business (employer-sponsored 401(k) plans) by generating leads, qualifying prospects, supporting the sales process, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners (e.g., brokers, advisors). This role positions the company’s retirement offering and helps drive new plan acquisitions and expansion of existing plan relationships.

Primary Responsibilities

The below represents the primary duties of the position, others may be assigned as needed. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Conduct outreach (via phone, email, web) to prospective employer clients and broker/advisor referral sources to generate interest in 401(k) solutions.
  • Qualify in-bound leads and work with the Sales team (Account Executives) to move qualified opportunities forward.
  • Support sales presentations and product demos — including preparation of materials tailored to 401(k)/retirement plan decision-makers.
  • Collaborate with broker/advisor channels, referral partners, and internal sales teams to create opportunities for retirement-plan business.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach, pipelines, meetings, and outcomes in CRM.
  • Meet or exceed activity and meeting-booking targets (e.g., number of qualified meetings, calls, pipeline volume).
  • Assist in proposal development, pricing support, and coordination of contract/plan-set-up documentation for new plan clients.
  • Stay informed of the retirement-plan marketplace (401(k) plan trends, employer-sponsored retirement issues, fiduciary concerns) and help incorporate insights into sales approach.
  • Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Product, Client Success, and Operations to ensure smooth client onboarding, hand-off, and service readiness for new 401(k) plan clients.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Business, Finance, Marketing or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years of sales, business development or customer-facing experience (internships, SaaS exposure, or financial services background welcome).
  • QKA- Qualified 401(k) Administrator, CPC- Certified Pension Consultant, or NAPA CPFA – Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor credentials strongly preferred.
  • 1-3 years of prior experience in employer retirement plans (401(k), 403(b)), financial services, or HCM/benefits-related sales preferred.
  • Understanding of employer-sponsored benefits, advisor/broker distribution channels required.
  • Familiarity with CRM (e.g., Salesforce) and ability to use data/reporting to guide outreach required.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), comfortable making outbound calls and sending email outreach.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of calls/emails, manage tasks, and work toward targets.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, phones, printers, and copiers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, via phone, and email.

  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods.
  • Ability to work at a desk or workstation for extended periods of time, including using a computer or writing.

Fully Remote (U.S. Only): This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home or location of record within the U.S. with no in-office requirements. You must be available five days per week during designated work hours. The work arrangement for this role is subject to change based on business needs and individual performance.
