Job description

Job Summary:

Bamboo Insurance is seeking an experienced Integration Architect to define, design, and guide delivery of secure, scalable, and reliable integrations across Guidewire InsuranceSuite and Bamboo's enterprise technology ecosystem. This role will own integration architecture and technical standards, partner with business, product, platform, and digital teams, and provide hands-on architectural guidance to distributed engineering teams. The ideal candidate combines deep Guidewire integration expertise with modern API, cloud, event-driven, and AI-enabled engineering practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None. This is an individual contributor role that provides technical leadership, design guidance, and mentoring to onshore and offshore engineering teams.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Own integration architecture and technical direction across Guidewire InsuranceSuite, including PolicyCenter and related platform capabilities, digital applications, IGApps and third-party services.

  • Design and govern secure, resilient integrations using REST APIs, web services, messaging, event-driven patterns (GW appevents/MQs), and appropriate synchronous or asynchronous communication.

  • Lead integration design for Guidewire Cloud Platform and Integration Gateway / Integration Applications (IGApps), including P&C insurance workflows and partner integrations.

  • Translate business and solution requirements into integration patterns, architecture diagrams, interface contracts, data mappings, sequence flows, and implementation-ready technical designs.

  • Guide integrations with rating and comparative rating providers, document generation and management services, payment providers, data providers, and other insurance ecosystem partners.

  • Establish reusable integration frameworks, standards, reference patterns, API conventions, error-handling strategies, retries, idempotency, resiliency, and versioning practices.

  • Define non-functional requirements for security, performance, scalability, availability, observability, and disaster recovery; ensure designs meet enterprise and regulatory expectations.

  • Provide technical leadership to onshore and offshore engineers through design reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting, mentoring, and implementation guidance.

  • Partner with product, architecture, security, DevOps, QA, and business stakeholders to manage dependencies, resolve complex issues, and deliver integration capabilities across releases.

  • Improve production reliability through actionable logging, distributed tracing, monitoring, alerting, root-cause analysis, and measurable reduction of recurring integration defects.

  • Contribute to CI/CD and automated quality practices, including contract testing, integration testing, performance testing, and deployment validation.

  • Evaluate and apply AI-enabled engineering capabilities, such as AI-assisted design and code reviews, test generation, documentation, and operational troubleshooting, with appropriate security and human oversight.

  • Identify opportunities to use AI in customer or operational workflows where appropriate, ensuring secure API access, evaluation of outputs, monitoring, and human escalation for sensitive or uncertain decisions.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Guidewire InsuranceSuite integrations, preferably PolicyCenter, Guidewire Cloud Platform, and IGApps or equivalent Guidewire integration capabilities.

  • Deep knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON/XML, authentication and authorization, API security, data transformation, and integration design patterns.

  • Experience with event-driven architecture, messaging or asynchronous processing, distributed systems, and failure recovery patterns.

  • Experience integrating enterprise SaaS platforms and third-party services in the property and casualty insurance domain.

  • Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language or integration technology, such as Java, Gosu, or a comparable enterprise integration stack.

  • Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, source control, code reviews, and modern Agile/DevOps delivery practices.

  • Experience with production monitoring, structured logging, tracing, alerting, and diagnosing complex cross-system failures.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate architecture decisions clearly, influence technical stakeholders, and guide distributed engineering teams.

  • Required AI capability: practical experience using AI-assisted software engineering tools or building/integrating AI-enabled capabilities, with an understanding of responsible use, data privacy, secure integration, output evaluation, and human oversight.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Typically 8+ years of experience in software engineering and enterprise integrations, including significant experience designing and delivering production integration solutions.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Guidewire ACE certification in InsuranceSuite integration, PolicyCenter, or related Guidewire Cloud capabilities.

  • Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform, including cloud-native services, secrets management, identity, networking, and observability.

  • Experience with API gateways, enterprise integration platforms, schema and contract management, or service-mesh technologies.

  • Experience with insurance rating services, document generation, payments, customer/agent portals, or policy lifecycle integrations.

  • Experience with AI/GenAI concepts such as large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), model/API integration, prompt and response evaluation, and guardrails.

  • Experience using AI tools to improve code quality, test coverage, developer productivity, technical documentation, or production support.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
