Job description

Who we are

Yubo is the Social Discovery app to make new friends and hang out online. By eliminating likes and follows, we empower our users to create genuine connections and show up as their true selves.

We've pioneered a new way for Gen Z to socialize online, and with millions of active users, our goal is to redefine how we connect today and tomorrow.

Our team is international, multicultural and deeply committed to its mission. As the leading platform to socialize online, we have a special responsibility to build a safe digital space for our community. Safety is embedded in our DNA, and our proactive approach focuses on user protection, support, and education.

Join us in this exciting journey and help us shape the future of social interactions!

About this role

Yubo doesn't have a PR team yet, and that's exactly why this role exists: to build one from scratch and help Yubo become culturally relevant, resilient to reputational bumps, and a real driver of growth.

It's a rare chance to shape a PR function from day one inside a fast-moving global tech company. You'll design how it works, lead our agency partner, and craft the stories, moments and relationships that make people pay attention to Yubo. The role covers everyday consumer stories, corporate communications, and handling sensitive issues or crises when they arise. To start, you'll focus on the US, UK and France, with room to grow from there.

You'll report to the Director of Brand & Communications and work closely with teams across the business, especially Brand, Product, Data, Trust & Safety and Legal. You'll own the relationship with our PR agency, making sure they feel like a true extension of the team, and you'll help set up the habits and processes that make PR part of how Yubo works day to day.

This is a freelance role on a 6-month contract, with a target start in Q4 2026.

Your responsibilites

Set up how PR works at Yubo

  • Build PR operations and onboard Yubo's PR agency, setting clear ways to spot stories, check facts, and turn insight into coverage.

  • Dig into Yubo's data to find trends and stories worth telling.

  • Build a simple way to report on PR performance, linking coverage and sentiment to awareness and growth.

  • Review and embed Yubo's Crisis Comms Playbook.

Plan and run the PR agenda

  • Build Yubo's 2027 PR calendar and strategy, balancing campaigns, cultural moments, and day-to-day press activity.

  • Lead proactive and reactive media relations so Yubo speaks with a clear, consistent voice.

  • Spot and activate cultural moments through PR, research, events, creator partnerships and other earned activity.

  • Team up with Product and Data to build proof points and stories that show what Yubo means to people.

Look after Yubo's reputation

  • Advise senior leaders on reputational opportunities and risks.

  • Support corporate communications and reactive issues management when needed.

  • Work with Trust & Safety and Legal so Yubo talks about sensitive topics responsibly.

  • Help rally the right people internally when a crisis hits.

Who you are

You're a proactive PR lead with sharp cultural instincts and a track record of creating stories that genuinely earn attention, not just promote launches.

You'll bring:

  • Solid PR experience, with real results to show from leading a function or campaign.

  • A good read on Gen-Z culture and how 18 to 24 year-olds socialise and engage online.

  • Experience turning insight and data into media stories, including digging into data yourself to find the angle.

  • A track record of using different levers to earn attention: influencers, experts, events, activations, research, stunts.

  • Experience managing and getting the best out of an external PR agency.

  • Good judgement under pressure, with experience in issues or crisis communications.

  • Strong writing and speaking skills, comfortable with both consumer storytelling and sensitive corporate messaging.

  • The ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.

  • A self-starter mindset, with examples of building something from the ground up.

Nice to have, but don't let that stop you:

  • Experience in high-growth tech, consumer apps, youth culture, media, entertainment or lifestyle.

  • Experience in the US market, including relationships with US media and journalists.

Within a month, you will

  • Get familiar with Yubo's product, mission and community, and where our communications and reputation stand today.

  • Meet key people across Brand, Product, Data, Trust & Safety and Legal.

  • Start onboarding our PR agency and reviewing the Crisis Comms Playbook.

Within 3 months, you will

  • Have set up solid working habits with the PR agency and cross-functional teams.

  • Be well into building the 2027 PR strategy, calendar and measurement framework.

  • Have embedded the Crisis Comms Playbook and be actively building relationships with consumer, culture, lifestyle, tech and business media.

Within 6 months, you will

  • Have delivered Yubo's finished 2027 PR strategy and calendar.

  • Have landed our first standout data- and culture-led stories in top-tier media, backed by a working way to measure PR performance.

  • Have wrapped up the agency onboarding and defined the role of creators, experts, events and activations in Yubo's communications, leaving a solid foundation for what's next.

The recruitment process

  • A first introductory call with Nicolas, Talent Acquisition

  • A case study with Alex, our Brand Director.

As part of your role, you may handle tools and features involving personal data. We expect all employees to demonstrate strong awareness of privacy and safety issues, and to actively support our Privacy & Safety by Design efforts.
