Job description

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine as a Vascular Neurology Clinical Registry Abstractor in the Neuroscience Department. 

The Vascular Neurology Clinical Registry Abstracter supports clinical performance of stroke patients through abstraction, review, and reporting of clinical data to support initiatives related to quality improvement, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. The CRA is responsible for collecting clinical data from medical records for the timely submission into data registries and other clinical information systems within the organization. The CRA will use clinical knowledge and background to provide complete and accurate data and information regarding patient care as documented in the medical record. The CRA obtains appropriate clinical documentation through collaborative communications with the database manager, PAs, ICU, floor staff, and surgeons. 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Reviews both paper and electronic medical records to accurately interpret and record required data.
  • Reviews and becomes familiar with documentation in order to correctly interpret data according to the regulations.
  • Adhere to data submission reporting deadlines.
  • Communicate project and status and key project issues to supervisor.
  • Demonstrates courtesy and professionalism through interaction, appearance, attitude, and written and oral communication with visitors, co-workers, physicians, and other hospital personnel as to represent the department as a high-quality service area of the Hospitals.
  • Acknowledges and supports Hospitals defined goals and approach to patient care; attends regular training sessions and management classes to improve patient and customer communications.
  • Completes other duties as assigned or suggested by the Manager, Director, Associate and Technical Directors.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or other clinical degree or certificate preferred.
  • Minimum two years of medical terminology experience.
  • Experience with registries and/or databases is preferred. 
  • Analytical skills necessary to independently collect, analyze, and interpret clinical data
  • Strong computer and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical and administrative staff 

Preferrered Qualifications

  • Experience with registries and/or databases is preferred. 
  • Bedside experience
  • Background or Experience in Project Improvement
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
