Job description

The Tidal Financial Group is a leading ETF investment technology platform dedicated to creating, operating, and growing ETFs. We combine expertise and innovative partnership approaches to offer comprehensive, value-generating ETF solutions.

Our platform offers best-in-class strategic guidance, product planning, trust and fund services, legal support, operations support, marketing and research, and sales and distribution services.

About the role

The VP of Tax Management reports to the Head of Tax Management and leads the day-to-day delivery and review of tax administration services for exchange-traded funds. You will guide tax professionals, resolve complex RIC and ETF tax matters, and serve as a senior contact for clients and internal partners. The role combines hands-on technical review with team leadership, process improvement, and support for a growing fund platform.

What you'll do

  • Lead the tax team’s daily workflow, assign and review work, coach team members, and help build capacity as the ETF platform grows.
  • Oversee preparation and review of federal income tax returns (Form 1120-RIC), excise tax returns (Form 8613), extensions, and supporting workpapers; coordinate filing deadlines and resolve review comments.
  • Review fiscal year-end tax provisions, book-to-tax differences, tax character adjustments, ROCSOP analyses, and financial statement tax disclosures; coordinate with fund auditors.
  • Oversee excise calculations, dividend and capital gain distribution estimates, and tax reallocation data used for shareholder reporting.
  • Guide quarterly Subchapter M diversification and gross-income testing and work with Fund Administration, portfolio teams, and other stakeholders to address potential compliance issues.
  • Serve as a senior contact for client tax questions and participate in prospective client discussions when needed.
  • Improve review controls, procedures, technology, and training so tax services remain accurate and scalable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • At least seven years of investment company or fund tax experience, including substantial hands-on experience with RIC tax returns, excise tax, distributions, and Subchapter M compliance.
  • Experience reviewing complex tax work and guiding or supervising tax professionals.
  • Ability to research technical issues, exercise sound judgment, and communicate conclusions to clients, auditors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organization and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple funds.

Preferred qualifications

  • Direct experience with ETF tax operations, including in-kind creations and redemptions and the tax treatment of complex investments.
  • CPA or master’s degree in taxation.
  • Experience improving tax processes, controls, and systems in a growing fund administration environment.

We are prioritizing candidates who are located within proximity to Chicago, IL; Milwaukee, WI; New York City, NY; and West Palm Beach, FL.
