Key tasks
The intern will support ECPMF's communications team in migrating content from the current website to the new one. This includes reviewing existing pages, deciding together with the team what should be kept, revised, merged, or archived, and preparing content so that it is clear, up to date, and consistent with our new design and tone of voice.
Daily responsibilities
Transfer existing texts, images, and documents from the current website to the new content management system.
Review, edit, and shorten existing texts for clarity, accuracy, and readability on the web.
Draft new texts for project pages, programme descriptions, and other sections of the new website.
Ensure consistency in terminology, structure, and style across the website.
Help prepare content in line with basic accessibility and SEO principles (e.g. headings, alt texts, link descriptions).
Check links, metadata, and image rights, and keep track of the migration progress.
Support the communications team with related tasks, such as updating newsletter and social media references to the new website.
We are looking for a motivated person with an interest in press freedom, but most importantly, some experience with managing big websites.
The ideal candidate writes clearly and precisely in English and German, enjoys working with texts, and is able to explain complex topics in an accessible and responsible way. They work in a structured, detail-oriented manner and can keep track of a large volume of content.
Experience with WordPress or another CMS, basic HTML, SEO, web accessibility, or image editing tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is required. Previous experience in editorial work, journalism, communications, NGOs, or student media is an asset.
Key requirements
Enrolled at a German university.
Excellent written English and German.
Strong writing and editing skills, with attention to detail.
Structured working style and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently.
Interest in press freedom, journalism, human rights, democracy, or European civil
society.
A three-month internship with EUR 590 per month in an international organisation working at the centre of press and media freedom in Europe.
Practical experience in a website relaunch, from content strategy to editing and publication.
The opportunity to work across a wide range of topics, including journalist safety, media freedom violations, legal threats, exile, cross-border journalism, and SLAPPs.
Insight into the work of European civil society organisations, international coalitions, and media freedom networks.
A collaborative working environment in Leipzig, with the possibility of hybrid work depending on organisational needs.
