ABOUT US

Square One Politics seeks out the most promising Democratic women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community to run for Congress in long-overlooked red districts and states, and provides the high-impact, hands-on support they need to launch, run, and win their groundbreaking campaigns — against all the odds. Square One candidates and alumni include Denise Powell, Christina Hines, Lauren Underwood, Angela Alsobrooks, and many more. The organization has grown in 2026 to execute its most robust program to date. Next year, Square One is eager to continue to grow, enhance its work, and celebrate its 10th year anniversary.  


ABOUT THIS POSITION 

Square One is seeking a new Executive Director (ED). The current ED will be transitioning to a new role as President to help strategically expand the organization. The new ED will report to Square One’s President and work in coordination to oversee the organization’s next chapter of growth and impact. The new ED will manage four full-time staff and ensure the day-to-day work stays on track. A successful ED will bring heart and extensive experience in campaigns and electoral politics to the work, with a proven commitment to driving progressive change and uplifting the next generation of breakthrough leaders, as well as an understanding of long-term strategy and power building. The ideal candidate will love leading teams, forging meaningful relationships with donors and stakeholders in Democratic politics, and thinking creatively about how we can better support and elect a new generation of diverse and underrepresented leaders.



Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising

  • Pursue an ambitious fundraising program together with our Head of Giving and leadership team to introduce our work to a broad base of new donors around the country

  • Retain and regularly engage with our existing base of longtime supporters, including hosting specific programming for these donors 

  • Engage in regular call time for donor prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship

  • Work with fundraising staff to execute in-person fundraising events and/or meetings

  • Oversee a successful small-dollar online fundraising program


Staff Management and Leadership

  • Manage and grow our team, including supervision of political, operations, and fundraising staff 

  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain a high-performance team in order to achieve organizational goals; including regularly meeting 1:1 with all direct reports

  • Work with the COO to create and manage the organization’s budget, and multi-entity reporting and compliance

  • Collaborate with the President to execute on a 2-cycle strategy to lead impact through continued growth in 2028 and 2030


Program Oversight

  • Together with our National Political Director and President, implement our candidate support program, overseeing program elements from recruitment to campaign support to post-election initiatives and educational materials 

  • Work directly with our candidates and campaigns during election season 

  • Work with our leadership team to oversee new initiatives that support our mission

  • Expand our reach by building strong relationships and speaking on behalf of the organization to press, conferences, partners and more


THE RIGHT FIT FOR THIS POSITION  

  • 10-15+ years experience preferred in political, advocacy, and/or related non-profit work, including senior roles in campaigns or political organizations 

  • The ideal candidate brings substantial experience fundraising and relationships with mid-to-major national donors 

  • Strong commitment to uplifting diverse Democratic candidates, with a willingness to think outside-the-box to help reshape the way Democratic candidates are recruited and elected

  • Deep understanding of the current political ecosystem 

  • Significant experience in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget

  • An action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to your work

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • A positive attitude — with a desire to create a best-in-class workplace where staff feel value, supported, and committed to the work



Benefits

Location: We are a fully remote workplace and are open to applicants anywhere in the U.S.; expect occasional travel to DC, NYC, endorsed districts, and major U.S. cities for fundraising.


Salary Range: $175,000 - $195,000
