Job description

Overview:

As a Transcriptionist, you will help the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) to meet its mission of providing national leadership, resources, and coordination to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations and American Indians and Alaska Natives and to eliminate health disparities. You will use your foreign language and translation knowledge, skills, and abilities to produce materials that are more accessible to limited English proficiency (LEP) communities, helping HHS OMH to promote programs, initiatives and administration health priorities, empowering LEP communities to access HHS OMH materials independently, and making them more informed about important health and wellness issues. Join FWI in helping HHS OHM to communicate with LEP communities more effectively, thereby improving the health and wellness of millions of LEP Americans.

FWI is expanding rapidly and has been recognized as a 2024, 2025 and 2026 Top Workplace, offering excellent growth opportunities in a collaborative environment.

  • Develop and disseminate communications that promote English language education and literacy resources available to LEP communities.
  • Develop materials that inform LEP individuals and families of federally supported and community-based English language learning programs and resources.
  • Develop materials that encourage English language acquisition as a path to greater access to Federal services, health care, employment, and civic participation.
  • Produce materials in plain English at accessible reading levels and in formats suitable for multichannel distribution (digital, broadcast, and print).
  • Develop materials that reinforce that English proficiency enables direct, independent engagement with HHS programs and services.
  • Support HHS OMH’s engagement with community-based organizations, health centers, schools, libraries, and faith communities to distribute English literacy promotion materials and connect LEP individuals with English language learning resources.
  • Juggle multiple translation tasks simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
