Job description

Overview:

As a Graphic Designer, you will help the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) to meet its mission of providing national leadership, resources, and coordination to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations and American Indians and Alaska Natives and to eliminate health disparities. You will use your graphic design knowledge, skills, and abilities to produce materials that are more accessible to limited English proficiency (LEP) communities, helping HHS OMH to promote programs, initiatives and administration health priorities, empowering LEP communities to access HHS OMH materials independently, and making them more informed about important health and wellness issues. Join FWI in helping HHS OHM to communicate with LEP communities more effectively, thereby improving the health and wellness of millions of LEP Americans.

Work Schedule and Location:

Remote: This full-time remote position will work Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm Eastern Time.

Responsibilities:
  • Support plain-language communications and accessibility outreach services across multiple platforms and formats (e.g., fact sheets, infographics, social media messages, television and radio public service announcements, etc.).
  • Design infographics and other graphics for incorporation into HHS OMH materials.
  • Provide graphic design support for and consultation on fact sheets, infographics, posters, brochures, and similar materials.
  • Ensure all designs are aligned with HHS OMH brand guidelines and style guides.
  • Recreate documents in Adobe InDesign.
  • Make revisions to PDF documents according to Project Manager and HHS OHM direction promptly.
  • Juggle multiple graphic design and PDF layout tasks simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Attend and contribute to project status update meetings at least biweekly.
Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a similar field of study.
  • At least three years of experience providing graphic design and/or PDF layout support, preferably in the public health realm and/or a federal government or government contracting setting.
  • At least three years of experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, including Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, professionally.
  • Ability to juggle multiple graphic design and PDF layout tasks simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be eligible for an HHS Public Trust security clearance.

Desired: 

  • Master’s degree in graphic design or a similar field of study.
  • Intermediate or advanced 508 compliance skills in Microsoft 365 or Adobe Acrobat preferred but not required.
  • Experience using human-centered design principles preferred but not required.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and video editing software preferred but not required.
  • Federal government, government contracting, or public health experience preferred but not required.

Pay Range:

$25.26 - $29.71/hour, depending on experience, education and clearance level.
