Job description

About Endeavor

Endeavor is building the financial infrastructure that helps healthcare providers offer better payment options to their patients.

Today, accessing healthcare financing is fragmented across lenders, workflows, and systems. Endeavor brings that experience into one platform—helping practices match patients with financing options, manage the process from application through funding, and ultimately make more treatment accessible.

We're starting in dental, where our platform is already used by practices and large dental groups and integrates directly with multiple lenders and financial partners.

We're still a small team, which means engineers here have an unusually large amount of ownership over both the product and the company we're building.

The Role

We're looking for a product-minded full-stack engineer to join our engineering team in Austin.

This isn't a role where product hands you a fully written spec and you disappear to implement it. Our engineers are involved from the beginning: understanding the problem, figuring out what we should build, working through the user experience, making technical decisions, and ultimately shipping it.

You'll work across our stack—Next.js, React, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and AWS—and own meaningful parts of the product end-to-end.

We're intentionally keeping the engineering team small and high-output. We use AI heavily throughout our development process, move quickly, and give individual engineers a lot of responsibility.

You'll work directly with our CTO, the rest of the engineering team, and people across product, operations, implementation, and our customers.

What You'll Do

  • Own product problems end-to-end. Help figure out what to build, not just how to build it.

  • Build and ship production features across our frontend, backend, APIs, database, and infrastructure.

  • Turn complex healthcare and financial workflows into products that feel simple and intuitive.

  • Design APIs, data models, integrations, and internal systems that power real-time financing workflows.

  • Work directly with users and internal teams to understand problems and iterate on solutions.

  • Integrate with lenders, banks, payment providers, and other external platforms.

  • Use AI development tools aggressively to prototype, build, debug, test, and ship faster.

  • Make thoughtful tradeoffs between speed, simplicity, reliability, and long-term architecture.

  • Own what you ship in production and help us continuously improve the quality of the platform.

  • Take increasing ownership of technical and product decisions as the company grows.

You'd Probably Like This Role If...

  • You'd rather own an entire feature than one small layer of a system.

  • You naturally ask "why are we building this?" before jumping into implementation.

  • You care about how a product feels to use, not just whether the code works.

  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and don't need every requirement defined for you.

  • You like working directly with customers or non-engineers to understand problems.

  • You've built side projects, startup products, open-source software, or things that weren't assigned to you.

  • You use tools like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar AI tools every day and are constantly improving the way you work with them.

  • You enjoy moving quickly while still taking pride in building reliable software.

  • You want more ownership than you'd typically get on a larger engineering team.

  • You like the idea of working closely with a small group of ambitious people in person.

What We're Looking For

We're more interested in what you've built and how you think than checking every box below.

Ideally, you have:

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent evidence that you can build and ship great software.

  • Strong full-stack web development experience.

  • Experience with React, Next.js, or a similar modern frontend framework.

  • Experience building backend applications and APIs. Ruby on Rails is a plus, but not required.

  • Strong fundamentals around relational databases and SQL.

  • A track record of taking ownership and shipping meaningful production software.

  • Strong product instincts and an ability to turn ambiguous problems into simple solutions.

  • Comfort working in a startup environment where priorities evolve quickly.

  • Good judgment around testing, security, reliability, and maintainability.

Experience in fintech, healthcare, payments, lending, or other regulated industries is useful, but absolutely not required.

How We Build

We believe AI is changing what a small engineering team is capable of.

We don't use AI simply to generate more code. We use it throughout the engineering process—to explore unfamiliar systems, prototype ideas, investigate production issues, write and review code, test assumptions, and dramatically shorten the distance between an idea and something a customer can use.

We're looking for engineers who are excited about figuring out what great software engineering looks like in that environment.

At the same time, we care deeply about fundamentals. Endeavor handles sensitive healthcare and financial workflows, so reliability, security, auditability, and good technical judgment matter.

The goal is high velocity without sloppiness.

Working Together

We're building our engineering team in Austin and want this role to be based here.

We work together in person regularly because we've found that a small team moves faster when we can whiteboard a problem, review something together, grab lunch, or quickly pull someone into a conversation.

We're flexible about exactly when and where work happens—we care much more about output and collaboration than tracking office attendance—but this is not intended to be a fully remote role.

Why Endeavor

There are plenty of places where you can be one engineer on a large team working on a small piece of a product.

That's not this job.

At Endeavor, you'll join a small engineering team, work directly with company leadership and customers, and have the opportunity to own meaningful parts of both the product and the technical foundation behind it.

You'll get exposure to product development, fintech infrastructure, healthcare, lending, payments, integrations, security, data, and AI—and you'll have a meaningful voice in how we build the engineering organization as we grow.

For the right person, we think that's a much more interesting way to spend the next few years.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary

  • Meaningful equity ownership

  • Health benefits

  • Flexible PTO

  • Professional development budget

  • Regular team and customer travel when useful

  • High ownership and direct access to company leadership
