About the team and the role:

How do you build the platform foundation that powers global commerce for millions of buyers and sellers? The Developer Platform, Productivity & Experience Engineering team within eBay’s Global Technology organization builds and operates the internal platform ecosystem used by more than 3,000 engineers. Our work includes continuous delivery, automated testing systems and AI-powered developer tools. By removing friction from the software development lifecycle, our platform helps engineering teams across eBay deliver safe, high-quality experiences to our global marketplace.

In this role, you will serve as the hands-on technical lead for our platform engineering team in Austin. You will stay close to the code while helping guide technical decisions, designing core microservices and scaling platform capabilities used across eBay. This is an opportunity to mentor engineers, shape system architecture and partner with global teams to elevate the developer experience across eBay!

What you will accomplish:

  • Help guide technical decisions for our Austin platform engineering team while remaining active in designing and shipping production software.
  • Architect scalable microservices and platform APIs using Java or Kotlin to support core developer workflows across eBay.
  • Evolve Kubernetes platform architecture to improve reliability while strengthening observability and infrastructure scalability.
  • Build responsive React experiences that streamline internal platform workflows and make tools easier to use independently.
  • Guide engineers through technical design decisions, code reviews and distributed systems tradeoffs.
  • Partner with engineering teams across eBay to evolve platform capabilities and integrate applied AI into developer workflows.

What you will bring:

  • Deep platform engineering experience building shared developer platforms or cloud infrastructure at meaningful scale.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong Java, Spring Boot or Kotlin expertise building production microservices and distributed systems.
  • Advanced Kubernetes knowledge including controllers, orchestration and platform automation.
  • Frontend experience with React plus strong Python scripting and automation skills.
  • Proven technical leadership guiding engineers through complex decisions and mentoring others.
  • This role is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship or work authorization support. Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States.
