Network Engineer (Cisco/Aruba/Fortigate) - Portugal Full Remote

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Join an international technology environment where network reliability, security and operational excellence are critical to business operations. You will become part of an Infrastructure team responsible for supporting a complex, multi-vendor enterprise network while contributing to major connectivity and infrastructure transformation initiatives.

This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced Network Engineer who enjoys working across different technologies, solving complex connectivity issues and improving the reliability of network operations. You will collaborate with infrastructure teams, business stakeholders and technology vendors in a technically demanding environment.

PROJECT & CONTEXT

You will support day-to-day network operations across a multi-vendor enterprise environment, working with Cisco and HP Aruba switching, routing and wireless infrastructure. You will also administer and support Fortigate and SonicWall firewalls, including security policies, rules, firmware and device health.

The role includes configuration and troubleshooting of site-to-site and remote-access VPNs, as well as network support for VMware virtualised environments. You will participate in daily operational checks, monitoring and alert review while taking ownership of network incidents through to resolution and root-cause analysis.

Alongside BAU operations, you will contribute to significant infrastructure initiatives, including an SD-WAN implementation and LAN and Wi-Fi refresh programmes. Your responsibilities may include design input, site migrations, configuration, testing, cutovers, validation and the handover of new environments into BAU operations.

Automation and continuous improvement are also important aspects of the role. You will be encouraged to automate repetitive configuration, backup and compliance tasks while maintaining accurate network diagrams, configurations, procedures and runbooks.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)

• Hands-on experience as a Network Engineer in enterprise environments.
• Practical experience with Cisco networking technologies, including switching, routing and wireless.
• Experience with HP Aruba switching, routing and wireless solutions.
• Hands-on experience administering Fortigate firewalls, including rules, policies, firmware and health monitoring.
• Experience with SonicWall firewalls.
• Practical experience configuring and troubleshooting VPNs, including site-to-site and remote-access connectivity.
• Experience supporting networking within VMware virtualised environments.
• Experience with network monitoring, troubleshooting and operational health checks.
• Experience working with ITSM processes, including incident, service request and change management.
• Experience with Change Advisory Board (CAB) processes and controlled network changes.
• Experience using Azure DevOps (ADO) boards for task tracking and delivery.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly with technical and business stakeholders, particularly during incidents and network changes.
• Ability to work independently across a multi-vendor infrastructure environment.
• Professional working proficiency in English.
• Availability to work UK hours from Portugal, according to an agreed schedule.

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred)

• Experience participating in SD-WAN implementations, migrations or site rollouts.
• Experience with LAN and Wi-Fi refresh programmes, including wireless surveys and deployment activities.
• Experience with network automation and scripting using Python and/or Ansible.
• Experience automating network configuration, backups or compliance checks.
• Knowledge of network security and least-privilege principles.
• Experience working with vendor support teams and managing technical escalations.
• Certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Cisco CCNP, Aruba ACMA, Aruba ACMP or relevant Fortinet certifications.
• Experience maintaining technical documentation, network diagrams and runbooks in Confluence.

Compensation: €2,300 – €3,050/month net, depending on experience and seniority level.
