Job description

Overview:

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, a national law firm with offices in all 50 States, has an immediate opening for a nurse paralegal in its St. Louis office. Required qualifications include being a registered nurse and having experience reviewing medical records in a legal setting and preparing medical chronologies for use at trial.

Candidates should have a solid knowledge of litigation support, including organizing, reviewing, and analyzing medical records and producing medical chronologies that include a detailed summary of medical records that address complaints, claimed injuries, and medical treatment received as well as identifying additional records to be obtained.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and analyzing medical records from hospitals, physicians, clinics, EMS providers, nursing facilities, and other healthcare providers.
  • Preparing detailed medical chronologies, timelines, and case summaries.
  • Identifying clinically significant events, changes in patient condition, diagnostic findings, treatment decisions, and outcomes.
  • Reviewing medical records for potential liability, causation, and damages issues.
  • Identifying inconsistencies, missing records, gaps in treatment, and other issues requiring further investigation.
  • Assisting attorneys with initial case evaluation and litigation strategy.
  • Researching medical conditions, procedures, medications, standards of care, and relevant medical literature.
  • Assisting attorneys with written discovery and discovery responses involving complex medical issues.
  • Reviewing and organizing medical records produced during discovery.
  • Preparing attorneys for depositions of plaintiffs, treating physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Assisting with preparation for expert depositions.
  • Assisting attorneys in identifying, researching, and communicating with potential medical experts.
  • Reviewing expert reports and identifying medical issues requiring additional investigation.
  • Preparing medical exhibits, timelines, demonstratives, and other litigation materials.
  • Assisting with mediation preparation and settlement evaluations.
  • Assisting attorneys with trial preparation, including organization and presentation of medical evidence.
  • Attending depositions, mediations, and trials when appropriate.
  • Maintaining organized electronic case files and medical records.
  • Performing other litigation-support functions as necessary.
