Job title: Technical Sales Engineer
Reports to: VP, Priority Commerce - Revenue Management
Department: Central Services
Location: Remote
Grade: 20
About Priority:
Priority Commerce is a leading financial technology company on a mission to deliver a personalized, easy-to-adopt financial toolset that accelerates cash flow and optimizes working capital for businesses. Our vision is to eliminate the barriers to unlocking revenue - empowering businesses to grow faster and operate smarter.
We achieve this through the Priority Commerce Engine, an innovative platform that combines payables, acquiring, and banking and treasury solutions. This unified approach allows businesses to streamline financial operations, reduce unnecessary costs, and uncover new revenue opportunities.
At Priority Commerce, we're driven by results. We expect our people to be known for results - bringing expertise, momentum, and relentless focus to every challenge, helping our clients and each other thrive.
About the Role:
The Technical Sales Engineer serves as a customer-facing technical resource who partners with Sales throughout the pre-sales process to help prospects understand how Priority's products and technology can support their business needs. This role combines technical expertise with strong commercial awareness, translating complex product capabilities, APIs, and integration requirements into clear, practical solutions for prospective customers and partners.
The Technical Sales Engineer leads technical discovery, recommends optimal integration paths, responds to technical and API-related questions during the prequalification process, and delivers compelling product demonstrations tailored to the prospect's use case. The role helps identify technical considerations early in the sales process, reduce uncertainty, and provide prospects with confidence in Priority's ability to meet their needs.
Unlike Solution Architects, who are responsible for designing and supporting custom or complex integration builds, the Technical Solutions Support focuses on pre-sales technical consultation using established product capabilities and integration patterns, escalating opportunities requiring custom architecture or development to the appropriate technical teams.
Responsibilities:
Partner with Sales during the pre-sales process to understand prospect requirements, business workflows, technical environments, and integration needs.
Lead technical discovery conversations and recommend the most appropriate Priority products, APIs, integration methods, and established solution paths based on the prospect's requirements.
Serve as a technical subject-matter resource during prospect meetings, responding to questions related to APIs, integrations, product functionality, data flows, technical requirements, and platform capabilities.
Prepare and deliver engaging product demonstrations that connect Priority's capabilities to the prospect's business needs and clearly communicate the value of the proposed solution.
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-oriented language for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Assess technical feasibility during the sales process, identifying potential integration considerations, dependencies, limitations, or risks before commitments are made.
Clearly identify when an opportunity requires custom development or solution architecture and facilitate an effective handoff to Solution Architects, Product, or other technical teams.
Partner with Product and technical teams to maintain current knowledge of platform capabilities, APIs, integration options, product enhancements, and roadmap developments.
Develop and maintain reusable technical sales resources such as demonstration environments, integration diagrams, API guidance, technical FAQs, and discovery materials.
Capture recurring prospect requirements, technical objections, and integration needs and provide feedback to Product and Sales leadership to improve product positioning and the overall sales process.
Support Sales in communicating technically accurate solution approaches in proposals, presentations, and other customer-facing materials.
What Success Looks Like:
Sales teams have a trusted technical partner who can confidently lead technical conversations throughout the evaluation process.
Prospects receive clear, accurate guidance on how Priority's products will integrate with their technology and business processes.
Technical requirements, dependencies, and potential integration challenges are identified early, reducing downstream surprises during implementation.
Product demonstrations are tailored, engaging, and effectively connect Priority's technical capabilities to the prospect's business objectives.
Standard integration opportunities progress efficiently without unnecessary reliance on Solution Architects or Product teams.
Opportunities requiring custom architecture are identified early and transitioned to the appropriate technical resources with clear requirements and context.
Technical questions and objections are addressed quickly and accurately, helping Sales maintain momentum and accelerate opportunities through the pipeline.
Feedback from prospect conversations improves technical sales materials, product positioning, and Priority's understanding of emerging customer integration needs.
Candidate Requirements:
4+ years of experience in sales engineering, solutions consulting, technical consulting, implementation, integrations, or a similar customer-facing technical role.
Experience supporting a B2B software, SaaS, payments, fintech, financial services, or other technology-driven sales organization.
Strong working knowledge of APIs, including REST APIs, authentication methods, webhooks, data structures, and common system integration concepts.
Ability to understand customer technical environments and translate business requirements into practical integration approaches.
Experience conducting technical discovery sessions and delivering customer-facing product demonstrations.
Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and business audiences.
Commercial mindset with the ability to balance technical accuracy with the objectives and pace of the sales process.
Strong problem-solving skills and judgment regarding when an opportunity can be supported through standard capabilities versus when additional technical architecture is required.
Ability to collaborate effectively across Sales, Product, Engineering, Solution Architecture, Implementation, and Operations.
Ability to manage multiple opportunities and technical evaluations simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
