Job description

This is a remote position.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-focused Australian Tax Accountant to review and quality-check tax work prepared by junior tax accountants in India for Australian Client, an Australian accounting and advisory practice. The role will help ensure accurate, complete, compliant, and client-ready tax work across individual, business, trust, property, and related accounting matters.

This is an all-rounder role requiring approximately 2–3 years of relevant Australian tax-accounting experience. The successful candidate will be confident using Xero, able to take ownership of matters from review through to completion, and comfortable liaising with the founder, clients, and offshore team members. The role will also contribute to improving Australian Client’s processes, checklists, workflows, and quality standards.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Technical review and tax compliance: review individual, sole trader, company, trust, and property-investment tax returns, workpapers, financial statements, BAS, IAS, PAYG, and supporting documents prepared by junior accountants; identify errors, missing information, technical risks, and inconsistencies; prepare or finalise work where required; and escalate complex matters before advice or lodgement. Team coordination and process improvement: provide clear review feedback; track outstanding items and deadlines; liaise with the founder, clients, and offshore team; maintain checklists and workpapers; identify recurring issues; and improve Australian Client’s preparation and review procedures.

Essential Experience
Approximately 2–3 years of relevant Australian tax-accounting experience, with demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing tax returns and compliance work for individuals, sole traders, companies, trusts, and property investors.

Essential Skills
Strong working knowledge of Australian tax and compliance processes; hands-on Xero experience; excellent attention to detail; accurate review of
numbers and documentation; ability to take ownership and meet deadlines; professional written and verbal English; clear communication with remote teams and clients; sound organisation; and discretion with confidential information.

Desired Experience
Experience with Xero Tax, Xero Practice Manager, FYI, BGL, HandiSoft, MYOB, or comparable systems; BAS, IAS, payroll, bookkeeping, capital gains tax, rental properties, negative gearing, depreciation, ASIC agent services, SMSF compliance, or tax-planning work; and experience creating SOPs, checklists, or training materials.

Training & Support
The client will provide onboarding to Australian Client’s systems, client profiles, review standards, approval workflows, templates, and reporting formats. The successful candidate will be expected to give practical feedback and guidance to junior accountants so that work quality improves consistently over time.

Role Boundaries
The role will provide review, preparation, coordination, and process support. Final approval, regulated tax advice, signing, and lodgement authority will remain subject to Australian Client’s Registered Tax Agent arrangements, the candidate’s qualifications and authority, and applicable Australian requirements. Complex or high-risk matters must be escalated before advice is issued or work is lodged.
