Magna Legal Services is seeking an experienced Locate Investigator to join our Investigations team. This individual will conduct desktop-based investigations to locate individuals and verify relevant information for a variety of legal matters. The role will primarily support plaintiff and defense law firms, often in connection with service of process. This position requires availability to work a schedule aligned with Central Time business hours.

The ideal candidate is a resourceful and persistent investigator who can synthesize information from multiple sources, identify meaningful connections, and determine the most effective next steps. Success in this position requires sound judgment, attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.


Primary Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive locate and skip-tracing investigations involving individuals who are missing, difficult to find, or attempting to avoid contact, including debtors, heirs, beneficiaries, witnesses, and other persons connected to legal matters.

  • Search and analyze public records, proprietary databases, social media, and other available sources to identify current addresses, contact information, employment details, associates, and other relevant information.

  • Conduct lawful investigative calls to obtain or verify information while adhering to company policies and applicable legal and ethical requirements.

  • Interview relatives, associates, neighbors, employers, and other individuals who may have relevant information.

  • Review and evaluate information from multiple sources to identify connections, resolve discrepancies, and develop actionable leads.

  • Document investigative findings clearly and accurately, maintaining organized case notes and supporting records.

  • Coordinate service-of-process activities with field investigators and process servers.

  • Provide timely case updates and communicate findings, challenges, and recommended next steps to internal team members.

  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with appropriate care and discretion.


Desired Background
  • Two to five years of relevant experience in investigations, skip tracing, service of process, or a related field.

  • Experience in law enforcement, a law firm, the court system, legal services, collections, or a professional investigative environment is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct detailed online research using public records, investigative databases, social media, and other research tools.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess information from multiple sources and develop effective investigative strategies.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple active cases.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; regular interaction with colleagues, field investigators, process servers, and third parties is a core function of the position.

  • High level of professionalism, persistence, discretion, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work a schedule aligned with Central Time business hours.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Communications, or a related field is preferred.

  • Bilingual capabilities are a plus.
