Are you looking for an exciting, innovative company with over 100 years of excellence and commitment to ethical business?  Amentum is a trusted partner to United States government agencies.

Join a mission-driven team supporting strategic U.S. defense systems. As an Electronic Component Engineering SME, you’ll use your technical expertise to influence part selection, ensure reliability, support testing, and help guide critical military programs from concept through sustainment. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex component challenges, collaborating across government and industry, and staying deeply engaged in quality, reliability, and standards work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide component engineering support to technologists, including authoring clear and well‑structured technical reports.
  • Advise military programs and hardware designers on part selection to ensure performance, reliability, and long‑term sustainment.
  • Troubleshoot component-level technical issues and recommend effective solutions.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical test methods, radiation effects, failure analysis techniques, and material analysis tools.
  • Collaborate with program offices, prime contractors, designers, parts manufacturers, test labs, and government stakeholders.
  • Create, review, and refine detailed test plans and related documentation.
  • Provide full life‑cycle engineering support for strategic defense systems.
  • Participate in DLA audits, JEDEC working groups, and reviews of military performance specs and test methods—helping shape industry and defense standards.
  • Travel 25% to support audits, reviews, meetings, and program engagements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Electrical Engineering preferred) and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent.
  • Component engineering experience with emphasis on quality and reliability of IEEE parts.
  • Familiarity with (or willingness to learn) best design practices for IEEE components.
  • Basic understanding of military industry standards (MIL‑STD).
  • Ability to analyze differences across part standards and apply them appropriately.
  • Strong communication skills for engagement with customers, program offices, colleagues, and contractors.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ability to learn advanced functions.
  • Ability to write clear, accurate technical reports.
  • Basic understanding of electrical testing of IEEE parts.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced component engineering experience focused on quality and reliability of IEEE parts.
  • Experience with discrete, passive, digital, or analog devices.
  • Deep knowledge of best design practices for IEEE components, especially ICs and related manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding differences between military, industry, commercial, and automotive standards.
  • Strong Excel skills (complex formulas, macros, automation).
  • Strong understanding of electrical testing of IEEE parts and ability to perform basic benchtop testing.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
