Job description

Voleon is a technology company that applies state-of-the-art AI and machine learning techniques to real-world problems in finance. For nearly two decades, we have led our industry and worked at the frontier of applying AI/ML to investment management. We have become a multibillion-dollar asset manager, and we have ambitious goals for the future.

Your colleagues will include internationally recognized experts in machine learning research as well as highly experienced finance and technology professionals. You will be working with strategies that are at the forefront of machine learning and statistical trading. The strategies have been carefully designed to generate non-correlated returns. Our firm and its strategies are the product of many years of meticulous research and craftsmanship, and you will lead the way in bringing them to investors.

In addition to our enriching and collegial working environment, we offer highly competitive compensation and benefits packages, technology talks by our experts, a beautiful modern office, daily catered lunches, and more.

As a Tax Associate, you will report directly to Voleon’s Tax Manager and support the tax function for Voleon’s flagship funds across complex, multi-entity structures. This role is a great opportunity to build foundational tax expertise: you will assist with tax compliance, help coordinate with external advisors, support fund-level tax reporting, and contribute to building scalable tax processes as the function continues to evolve. You will work closely with colleagues across Finance, Legal, Accounting, and Operations while developing familiarity with the fund structures, including partnerships, corporations, and foreign entities used across the flagship funds. The role offers exposure to compliance, investor tax reporting, advisor coordination, and tax projects within a growing and dynamic business.

Responsibilities

  • Perform first level review of tax returns, Schedule K-1s, workpapers, and supporting schedules prepared by external advisors, summarizing and flagging items for Tax Manager review

  • Assist in maintaining the tax compliance calendar, trackers, and supporting documentation across all entities, proactively flagging deadlines for annual filings, registrations, and tax notices to ensure timely, accurate compliance

  • Help coordinate the collection, tracking, and review of tax documents and related investor requests

  • Prepare ad-hoc special projects and tax-related requests from various investors with accuracy and timeliness

  • Support tax process improvement through automation, documentation, and internal knowledge to increase efficiency

  • Assist with researching tax issues and regulatory changes relevant to existing and future funds

  • Provide support to the Fund Accounting team on various tasks during the off-peak tax season

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of tax experience, preferably at a Big 4 or national accounting firm

  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state income tax compliance for partnerships (Form 1065) preferred; corporate (Forms 1120) experience is a plus

  • Strong understanding of partnership taxation and related reporting

  • Experience with both onshore (U.S.) and offshore (Cayman) fund structures is a plus

  • Strong abilities in Microsoft Excel

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, Economics, or a related field

  • Authorization to work in the United States
