Job description

Join rater8, voted a Great Place to Work™ by its employees since 2022!

Sales Engineer

We're looking for a Sales Engineer who can connect the technical capabilities of rater8 to the real-world needs of healthcare organizations.

You'll partner directly with our sales team on opportunities where the conversation goes beyond features and pricing—EHR integrations, data flows, security requirements, complex organizational structures, technical workflows, and enterprise deployment.

You'll lead technical discovery, deliver tailored product demonstrations, answer the difficult technical questions, and help prospects understand exactly how rater8 will work within their environment.

This role sits at the intersection of Sales, Product, Engineering, and the customer. You'll need enough technical depth to earn credibility with IT and security teams and enough commercial awareness to understand that your job is ultimately to help move opportunities forward.

What Success Looks Like

Success isn't measured by how many technical calls you attend. It's measured by what happens because you were there.

You'll help us uncover technical requirements earlier, deliver better demonstrations, reduce unnecessary friction in enterprise evaluations, and give prospects confidence that rater8 can work within their organization.

As you ramp, you'll also help us build a more scalable technical sales motion—giving our sales team better tools, stronger processes, and the technical support needed to win larger and more sophisticated healthcare organizations.

What We're Looking For

You don't need to be a software engineer, but you need to be technically credible, naturally curious, and comfortable going deep when the conversation requires it

What You'll Do and Own

  • Technical discovery: Understand a prospect's existing technology stack, EHR environment, workflows, integrations, security requirements, and technical success criteria.
  • Product demonstrations: Deliver tailored demos that focus on the prospect's priorities and use cases—not a generic feature tour.
  • Technical validation: Identify potential technical blockers early and work with internal teams to determine what's possible, what's required, and the best path forward.
  • Enterprise conversations: Represent rater8 in discussions with IT, security, digital, marketing, patient experience, and executive stakeholders.
  • Integrations: Help prospects understand how rater8 connects with EHRs and other systems, including APIs, data exchange, authentication, SSO, and related workflows.
  • Security and RFP support: Own or support technical responses for RFPs, security questionnaires, architecture questions, and enterprise technology reviews.
  • Solution design: Work with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Customer Success to define solutions for more complex customer environments.
  • Sales enablement: Build technical resources, demo assets, diagrams, documentation, and repeatable processes that make the entire sales team more effective.
  • Voice of the market: Identify recurring technical requirements and communicate them clearly to Product and Engineering.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

We'd Be Especially Interested If

You've worked for a healthcare technology company and have firsthand experience navigating enterprise healthcare sales.

You understand why an EHR integration question can change the trajectory of a deal. You've been through security reviews. You've presented to IT teams and executives in the same sales cycle. You know how to uncover technical requirements without turning discovery into an interrogation.

And when a salesperson says, "I need you on this call," you're the person they want in the room.

Ideally, you bring

  • 3+ years in Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Solutions Consulting, or a similar customer-facing technical role.
  • Experience supporting complex SaaS sales cycles.

Healthcare SaaS experience is strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with health systems, medical groups, DSOs, hospitals, or other complex healthcare organizations is a significant plus.
  • Strong technical discovery and product demonstration skills.
  • Working knowledge of APIs, integrations, data exchange, authentication, SSO, and modern SaaS architecture.
  • Familiarity with EHR/EMR environments and healthcare interoperability.
  • Understanding of HIPAA, security reviews, SOC 2, and the expectations of enterprise healthcare IT teams.
  • The ability to translate technical concepts into clear business outcomes for non-technical stakeholders.
  • RFP Ownership Experience
  • Strong judgment. You know when to answer, when to dig deeper, and when to bring in Product or Engineering.
  • A commercial mindset. You understand that technical expertise is most valuable when it helps customers make confident buying decisions.
  • US Residents only. Must reside in the continental U.S., be authorized to work without sponsorship, and not reside in California.

Compensation

  • The expected salary range for this position is $110,000 to $120,000 annually. In addition to the base salary, this role offers performance-based commission opportunities with OTE range of $137,500 to $150,000. Actual total compensation will depend on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, years of relevant experience, and individual performance.

What You’ll Get

  • Smart, intellectually curious, creative, supportive, and overall awesome colleagues!
  • We are 100% fully remote! Work from anywhere in the U.S. with reliable Wi-Fi, within PST–EST time zones. Employees must be physically located in the U.S.; working outside the U.S. requires prior approval from leadership.
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • Discounted pet insurance
  • Unlimited PTO after 60 days of employment
  • 401(k) after six months with company match
  • Competitive salary
  • Fast-track career advancement with a high-growth, Great Place to Work™ certified organization
  • rater8 is a “bring your own device” company, enabling you to work on your preferred operating system; we offer a WFH stipend to offset costs per company guidelines
