Director, Engineering

The Director, Engineering is the strategic owner to the build and delivery of WelbeHealth's healthcare technology platforms, leading a team of onshore and offshore engineers to create the technology at the center of how our interdisciplinary teams care for our vulnerable seniors. Reporting to the VP, Technology, the Director, Engineering drives core engineering practices across the team, including code quality, design and code reviews, testing discipline, and delivery rhythm. This role remains hands-on in solution architecture and design for complex distributed systems and champions AI-assisted engineering as everyday practice. The Director, Engineering works closely with business stakeholders to design technical solutions and drive engineering delivery for the product.

On the day-to-day, you will:

• Lead and mentor a team of onshore and offshore engineers to deliver WelbeHealth's healthcare technology platforms and related participant and consumer digital products
• Perform hands-on solution architecture and design for complex distributed (multi-tiered) systems, and actively participate in design and code reviews to ensure both delivery of desired business outcomes and alignment to enterprise standards
• Drive core engineering practices across the team, including code quality standards, design and code reviews, automated testing discipline, CI/CD, and release management, while continually improving engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices as technologies evolve
• Work closely with business stakeholders to design technical solutions and drive engineering delivery for the product, from requirements discovery through production deployment and operational support
• Drive technology planning and investment decisions with business and technology leadership, keeping platform solutions aligned with corresponding technology roadmaps
• Ensure features provide the security and data integrity required to meet overall department goals toward PCI and HIPAA compliance
• Maintain testing, training, and production environments receiving live protected health data or copies of live data according to required security protocols, as well as migrate changes and enhancements into production using established change management processes

Job requirements include:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or equivalent; relevant professional experience may be substituted
• Solution Architecture certification (Azure preferred)
• Minimum of fifteen (15) years of information technology design, development, and support experience, with enterprise application development projects managed from start to finish
• Minimum of five (5) years of engineering leadership experience, including distributed onshore/offshore delivery models, with demonstrated ability to hire, mentor, and develop engineers
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft development tools and languages (.net); expert-level skills in multiple software development disciplines
• Extensive knowledge of multiple development platforms, languages, and technologies, including cloud-native architecture and delivery on Azure
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and practices, such as LLM-based developer tooling, code generation, and workflow automation
• Skilled in identifying and understanding business problems and in evaluating a broad range of technology solutions and selecting the best based on specific circumstances
• Knowledge of project lifecycles, including design, analysis, testing, and implementation, with experience in large-scale project planning
• Experience with healthcare technology platforms preferred
