Job Description

Unlike traditional traffic engineering roles, Olsson's Rail Traffic team combines traffic engineering with railroad coordination and project delivery. Our engineers are encouraged to develop technical expertise and project management skills. You can expect direct client interaction, project coordination, and ownership of project delivery activities as you work with Class I railroads, state DOTs, local agencies, and other consultants on projects that improve safety and mobility nationwide. This is position is perfect for individuals seeking to expand their career beyond technical design work and develop skills in project delivery and client service.

Olsson’s Rail Traffic experts serve as a comprehensive resource for clients, offering a range of services including traffic signal preemption design, grade crossing safety design, traffic operations studies, and other related services. As a Project Engineer within the Rail Traffic team, you will play a pivotal role in assisting with traffic and preemption analysis and design. Your responsibilities will include conducting site visits, contributing to the review and preparation of plans and/or studies, and collaborating closely with team members on complex projects.

Project Engineers on the Rail Traffic team can expect occasional travel to job sites for observation and to attend client meetings.

Qualifications

You bring to the team:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to contribute and work well on a team
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Must possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license
• 6+ years of traffic or transportation engineering experience
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Synchro, or similar software
• Strong problem-solving and math skills
