DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a part time (5-30hrs/week depending on work load) Clinical Support Nurse to support our clinical team during holidays and weekends. The role will both require one to fill in for our full time clinical support nurse and at times referrals clerks and nurses on weekends, holidays and as volumes increase with an hourly rate between $25-$30 / hour, commensurate with experience. This role may expand to more hours in the future. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills and a background in administration, superior communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently in a remote setting and be tech-savvy.  

Hours are flexible and the work is remote.  We are looking for weekend, evening coverage and daytime coverage at times. A degree of flexibility will be required based on the activities in our daily clinics. 

Key Responsibilities

• Review all incoming laboratory and other clinical results,
• Flag all urgent and emergent results for review by the ordering physician or on call physician as indicated,
• Coordinate appropriate follow up with the physician and other members of the care team. Including but not limited to Physician Assistants (PAs), Clinical Associates (CAs), and Patient Care Coordinators (PCC),
• Assist with sorting and filing results within the EMR,
• Monitor incoming faxes from pharmacies for prescription refills and/or clarification,
• Coordinate appropriate management of pharmacy faxes with physicians and other members of the care team,
• Assist with the organization and processing of incoming patient referrals, 
• Document actions taken in patient charts,
• Communicate with patients on upcoming appointments, 
• Assist the PAs, CAs, and referrals clerk as required,
• Participate in staff/medical meetings,

DUTIES / REQUIREMENTS:

• Current Licensure in a Canadian province or territory.
• Strong clinical knowledge and knowledge of medical terminology
• Strong clinical judgement 
• Knowledge and integrity in handling protected health information in compliance with HIPAA/PHIPA/PIPEDA guidelines
• Possess a high level of professionalism including but not limited to confidentiality, documentation and organization
• Awareness of various medical specialities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in English.
• Bilingual in French/Spanish is an asset, but not required
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in meeting deadlines
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly to changes
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Computer knowledge using applications such as Gmail, Slack, Zoom, Google Drive/Docs/Spreadsheets/Calendar/Adobe and other EMR related software

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Active licence in Ontario, Alberta or British Columbia would be an advantage
• HIPAA compliance certification is desirable
• Medical Terminology Certificate is desirable
• Preferred qualification - Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
• Greater than 3 years experience in clinical environments
• LOCATION:  This is a virtual position and can be done remotely from anywhere in Canada.
