Senior Director, Head of Enterprise Clinical AI & Technology - Remote - The Cigna Group

Location: Flexible Location; Chicago, IL, Bloomfield, CT, Philadelphia, PA, St. Louis, MO preferred.

This position is open to candidates located anywhere within the United States. Candidates who reside within approximately 50 miles of a designated office location may be expected to work onsite in accordance with the company's In-Person Presence guidelines. Candidates residing outside of the designated commuting radius may work remotely.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Head of Enterprise Clinical AI + Technology is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping, designing, and advancing The Cigna Group’s enterprise clinical AI and technology agenda. Reporting to the Managing Director, Enterprise Clinical Strategy and Operations, this leader will operate at the intersection of clinical expertise, product and solution design, artificial intelligence, and operational execution. The role will partner across clinical, technology, data and analytics, operations, legal, compliance, and business teams to translate enterprise clinical priorities into scalable AI-enabled solutions that improve clinical quality, clinician experience, operational efficiency, affordability, and patient health outcomes.

IMPACT STATEMENT: This role is pivotal in accelerating the enterprise clinical AI roadmap by ensuring solutions are clinically grounded, responsibly designed, operationally scalable, and aligned to measurable business and clinical outcomes. The Senior Director will help position the enterprise clinical organization as a strategic growth engine by moving high-priority AI and technology opportunities from concept through design, implementation, adoption, and performance management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead the development and execution of enterprise clinical AI and technology strategies that advance clinical quality, affordability, operational performance, clinician experience, and patient health outcomes across Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth businesses.
• Serve as a senior clinical and strategic advisor to business, clinical, technology, data science, and operations leaders, translating complex clinical needs and enterprise priorities into actionable AI-enabled solution roadmaps.
• Oversee the design and refinement of differentiated clinical AI and technology solutions, including use cases related to agentic AI, clinical workflow automation, care management, utilization management, documentation support, clinical decision support, and clinician-facing productivity tools.
• Apply clinical expertise and human-centered solution design principles to ensure AI-enabled capabilities are grounded in real clinical workflows, user needs, evidence-based practice, regulatory expectations, and operational feasibility.
• Partner with product, technology, data and analytics, operations, legal, compliance, privacy, information protection, and business teams to move priority AI and technology initiatives from opportunity identification through design, incubation, implementation, adoption, and scale.
• Provide thought leadership on emerging AI, digital health, interoperability, and clinical technology trends to identify opportunities, risks, and partnership options that support enterprise clinical strategy and market differentiation.
• Develop business cases, impact models, success metrics, and performance management routines to measure clinical, operational, financial, adoption, and user-experience outcomes for AI and technology initiatives.
• Establish strong execution discipline, governance routines, and executive-level reporting to manage progress, surface risks, drive decisions, and ensure alignment across a highly matrixed environment.
• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team, including direct management of colleagues responsible for clinical AI strategy, solution design, program execution, stakeholder engagement, and performance management.
• Create executive-level communications, presentations, decision documents, and stakeholder updates that distill ambiguity into clear recommendations and action-oriented next steps.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Active or prior clinical training and credential required, such as MD, DO, RN, NP, PA, PharmD, or other relevant licensed clinical background.
• 15+ years of progressive healthcare leadership experience, including experience in clinical strategy, clinical operations, digital health, product or solution design, technology-enabled transformation, or healthcare AI.
• Demonstrated experience designing or leading AI, machine learning, automation, digital health, or advanced analytics solutions in healthcare, preferably in payer, provider, pharmacy, care management, utilization management, or integrated delivery environments.
• Strong understanding of clinical workflows and the ability to translate clinician, customer, patient, and business needs into scalable technology-enabled solutions.
• Proven ability to lead direct reports and matrixed teams, build talent, create accountability, and develop a high-performing team culture in a complex and fast-paced environment.
• Strong executive presence and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and drive decisions across senior clinical, business, technology, data, legal, compliance, and operations stakeholders.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity, structuring complex problems, making pragmatic tradeoffs, and moving strategic priorities into execution.
• Strong financial and business acumen, including experience developing business cases, impact models, KPIs, ROI assumptions, and performance management routines.
• Excellent communication skills, including ability to translate complex clinical, technical, AI, and operational topics into clear, concise, executive-ready materials.
• Bachelor’s degree and advanced clinical, healthcare, business, public health, informatics, or related degree required.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 193,300 - 322,100 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
