Environmental Monitoring and Regulatory Compliance Professional - Red Dog Mine, AK

Kuna is looking for an Environmental Monitoring and Regulatory Compliance Professional to embed at the Red Dog Mine for 2 week on and 2 week off shifts. This position is scheduled to last into April 2027. The work may be extended as required by the client.

• Provide environmental support to on-going civil construction projects.
• Monitor construction and ensure compliance with permits and regulations.
  • Permits include Construction Rock Handling, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plans, Multi-Sector General Permits, Cultural Resources Protection and Monitoring Plans, and Nesting Bird Standard Operating Procedures.
• Document compliance with plans, policies, procedures, and permit requirements.
• Complete inspections, monitor data sheets, and reporting forms.
• Coordinate between the construction manager and the construction teams to facilitate communication and quickly resolve conflicts, issues, and challenges related to environmental concerns that may arise in the field.
• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in encironmental sciences, engineering, chemistry, natural resource management, or related field.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in construction environmental monitoring and management, preferably in mining or road construction.
• Practical experience in erosion prevention and sediment control for construction projects, and turbidity monitoring and sampling; AK-CESCL certification/credentials desired.
• Knowledge of applicable regulatory, legal, and other requirements.
• Working knowledge of arctic wildlife and vegetation management.
• Experience working under US and State of Alaska environmental statutes/regulations/permits.
• Strong technical skills and the practical ability to solve problems.
• Ability to work in a team environment and work effectively across all levels of the business.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors/Outdoors – Frequent exposure to moderate to harsh weather conditions. Requires work to be done both inside and outside.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Description of environment: Frequently required to be outside at construction/project sites. Also occasionally inside in standard office setting.

Physical requirements:  Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: May travel 100 percent of the time during field season and be away on field trips for multiple days. Employee may travel to remote areas and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, helicopters and ATVs.

Travel may require an employee or contractor to pass a TSA security checkpoint.
