Position Description:

Leads the design, development, and implementation of automation pipelines. Oversees the application of

DevOps principles and effective use of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (Cl/CD) tools. Leads the development strategy for Web application experience Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Provides guidance on architectural decisions and ensures the effective use of Node JS, Express JS, Nest JS or GraphQL. Sets testing standards and champions automation frameworks. Applies in-depth knowledge of the business or function to guide the creation of multifaceted software solutions to ensure that development efforts support business-unit objectives and deliver end-to-end solutions aligned with organizational needs. Researches and recommends new technologies in support of the strategic direction of the business unit and participates in the research and recommendation of appropriate models, methods, tools, and technologies to achieve business-unit-wide solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Translates and incorporates business vision and strategy to architectural strategy recommendations at the functional level.

• Participates in high-level, cross-functional architecture design teams.

• Identifies and consults with internal and external technical resources to produce cross-company strategic designs.

• Consults on development and delivery of major technology initiatives for the business unit.

• Consults on deployment of major project deliverables.

• Consults on the documentation of major technology applications.

• Oversees the technical implementation of cross-divisional or company architectural components.

• Initiates and drives project or strategy discussions with users or external groups to resolve issues.

• Sets vision, goals, and direction of team/organization.

• Plans and leads organization-wide initiatives.

• Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.

• Advises senior management on technical strategy.

• Researches and recommends new technologies.

• Works across groups to identify opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives.

• Regularly provides guidance, training, and coaching to other team members for performance and career development.

• Identifies and plans for future resource needs.

• Determines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit.

• Ensures teams follow best practices and effectively adopt appropriate tools.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Biotechnology, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) developing Web applications, Web components, and API services using TypeScript, Java technologies, and GraphQL, within a financial services environment.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Biotechnology, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) developing Web applications, Web components, and API services using TypeScript, Java technologies, and GraphQL, within a financial services environment.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

• Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) designing and developing responsive, mobile-first applications, web components, and APIs for wealth management solutions using Angular and Node.js, and using GraphQL or RESTful API frameworks, in an Agile environment; and creating alerts and dashboards in Splunk and Datadog to provide application operational support.

• DE improving web application performance, resilience, and reliability by monitoring and optimizing page load times, service timeouts, and availability using Real User Monitoring (RUM) and synthetic monitoring through Catchpoint, along with application and infrastructure observability using Datadog.

• DE developing customer-facing Java and J2EE web applications and API based services using Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Backbone.js, Java, OpenAPI specifications written in YAM, and Maven; performing source code management with DevOps tools (Git); implementing CI/CD using Jenkins Groovy pipelines and IBM UrbanCode; and containerizing applications with Docker for deployment on Linux virtual machines and Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 instances.

• DE performing manual and automated testing using Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices, using Protractor, Cucumber, Karma, Jasmine, Jest, REST Assured, JUnit, and Selenium; and using Jenkins pipelines to orchestrate automated test, and integrating automated test into CI/CD workflows.

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
