Mō tēnei tūranga | About the role

As a Family & Sexual Harm (F&SH) Advisor, you will provide support to tāngata whai ora and their whānau affected by family and sexual harm. Working within a dynamic 24/7 service, you will use your expertise to deliver safe, person-centred support, undertake risk assessments, and help connect people with the services and resources they need.

As a 24/7 service, flexibility to work a range of shifts is essential. We are seeking kaimahi available to work 0.6, 0.8, or 1 FTE.  Availability to work overnight and weekend shifts will be highly regarded.

Ngā haepapa matua | Key responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, evidence-informed support to tāngata whai ora and whānau impacted by family and sexual harm.
• Conduct assessments, identify risk factors, and support the development of appropriate safety and support plans.
• Use advanced communication and counselling skills to respond effectively to a range of complex situations.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and support to other advisors to strengthen capability and service delivery.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and support services.
• Recognise and address barriers that may impact access to support, wellbeing, and outcomes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and promote best practice across the service.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure service delivery meets organisational, contractual, and professional standards.

Qualifications

You are an experienced practitioner with a strong understanding of family and sexual harm dynamics and a genuine passion for supporting people through some of life's most challenging circumstances. You are an exceptional listener and communicator who can quickly build rapport, use sound judgement, and provide effective support in complex and often high-pressure situations.

You bring a calm, adaptable, and solutions-focused approach to your work and are committed to delivering high-quality services that make a meaningful difference. With strong organisational skills and a commitment to ongoing learning, you continually seek opportunities to grow your own practice while supporting the development of those around you.

Ōu wheako ōu mātauranga hoki | Qualifications and Experience 

• A relevant tertiary qualification (or working towards) in counselling, psychology, social work, psychotherapy, or a related discipline, or 2+ years’ experience supporting individuals impacted by family violence or sexual harm.
• Working towards registration with a relevant body within the Mental Health and Addictions field
• Experience of supervision or coaching
• Ideally, 6+ months experience working in Telehealth or similar role, e.g. Helplines/eTherapy/F2F counselling or Therapy

• Strong communication, active listening, and counselling skills.
• The ability to exercise sound judgement and make informed decisions in complex situations.
• Experience managing sensitive and challenging conversations with professionalism and empathy.
• Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to coach, influence, and motivate others positively.
• The ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• A commitment to learning, feedback, and continuous improvement.
